Hey guys, I was wondering which is better a 1974 400Ci .40 4-barrel or a 1978 318Ci 2-barrel to put in my charger

70charger_boy

The 74 400 is way better. I had one in my fury and it screwed.  What is your car rigged up for right now, small block or big block?

Roadkill74 SE

it originally came with 400

70charger_boy

go with the 400 then you can keep the transmission and rear and no fabricating

jg68

I say stick with a 400.

70charger_boy

unless, you want to get a 318 hemi  :yesnod:

400 is an engine ready to be a diamond with 451 stroker as the best and cheaper stroker with just stock parts beside just HiPo pistons

I agree use the 400 block & do the 451 stroker

Ghoste

Just look at all the other posts all around the net of people searching for help with pulling their 318's and switching to a big block.  Then do a search for how many want to go the other way.

The 400 is a better boat anchor then the 318 is.

I'm one of those with the 318. I will go with the big block as soon as the opportunity arrives.

400 is way to go, especially if you're planning on upgrading it/stroker in future
