I have an Edelbrock 1405 (Manual choke).   I haven't really had the need to put a choke cable on it  because there is no problem starting in the mornings...I don't even have to pump the gas.   I've noticed recently that when I turn a corner, or take off from a stop, that I smell gas for a little while.   I'd like to know if you think I need to re-adjust the float level,  and also... the adjustment screws in the front....What are these best set at for a base setting? (number of turns on the screws)   It seems to be running a bit rich.   Vacuum gauge reads a steady 20 at idle.   I have the Eddy Performer intake that came with the carb/cam/intake/lifter set.  I still have the original intake in the closet.  Would that be better than the manifold that's on it now?

Here's a pic of the intake......Notice the plenum has been altered...it used to have 4 holes instead of 2 long ones

The perf intake should be fine, i would check fuel pressure first, eddys like around 5.1/2 lbs., also check the float levels, when adj the mixture screws, you want to try & achieve the highest idle, then bring the screws back in about an 1/8 to 1/4 turn each, the rpm may drop a tad, but thats ok, the norm is around 1/1/4 to 1.1/2 from fully seated, but this is a baseline, adj. from there.
