Help!!  My friend has a 74 Charger Rallye. The previous owner put a Chevy :icon_smile_angry: rear into this car.
He bought an 8 3/4 rear from a 67 Coronet, he was told it would fit. After putting new springs and shackles in, the rear was too narrow by 2.5 inches spring perch to spring perch. (Also the overall legnth of the rear housing was also too short).
Unfortunately we had to put the Chevy rear back in to get the car off the lift and home.
1.Does anyone know the correct measurement from backing plate to backing plate for this 74 Charger???
2.Also the correct measurement from spring perch to spring perch????
3.What other type MOPAR and year would fit the 74 Charger?????
Thanks
Peter

Just happened to have the Herd interchange book still sitting out.  According to it, any 71 to 74 B-body except station wagons will fit.
The housing should be 57 47/64 long.

spring perches are different between 71/72 and 73/74

71/72 are with small hole to hook on springs stud. Also are taller

73/74 are with big hole to the icolated spring clamp stuff. also are shorter to get the same hight than earliers because the clamp and isolation stuff.

width is the same thought.

you can try to install a 71/72 but to better fit will be nice try find also the lower plate.

Sorry, that's 57 and forty-seven/sixty-fourths.  I believe that is flange to flange.  Track width is 62 inches and spring seat center to center is 47.30 inches.

I have two 73/74 rear axles, 741 casting, complete. Open diferential with 3:23 ratio... but I bet shipping doesn't worth LOL
