I think my 67 R/T still has the stock cam in it, and it is a dog. 12" vac. at  idle( at most) and a shakey idle at that. I cut the comp. back to about 9:1 by using thicker head gaskets. I've been trying to polish this t..d now for about 10 years and I give up.  What I'm looking for is a better cam than I've got now. Any reccomendations? Thanks ???

If you're looking for the stock HP camshaft specs, here they are (from the '69 Service Manual):

Valve Duration:  268* Intake
Valve Duration:  284* Exhaust
Valve Overlap:  46*

Lift (@ zero lash):  0.450"  Intake
Lift (@ zero lash):  0.458"  Exhaust

They don't give much other useable information about the shape of the lobe's nose or ramp speeds, durations at 0.050" lift, etc.  Those are just the basic numbers, but maybe you can compare this to the other cams you are considering.  IMHO if you are only pulling 12" of vacuum at idle, you either have a non-stock cam or you have other issues with that engine.  You should be pulling way more vacuum than that.  Heck, I'm pulling way more than that in my 426 Hemi with a fairly hot roller cam in it.  Incidentally, your timing can have a big impact on what the vacuum numbers are, but I'm sure you've checked that too if you've been working on the car that long.

:iagree: That does not sound like a stock magnum cam based on the idle manners. Try advancing the timing at idle to see if you can increase the manifold vacuum. Adjust it for maximum vacuum and see what you've got. You may be able to tune it by shortening up the mechanical advance and dialing in more base timing.

By lowering compression with a big cam you are hurting the bottom end power....that's a step in the wrong direction.
