Descent rocker arms for a flat tappet hydraulic or solid cam.....no good with a roller cam > too much spring pressure. My buddy broke his Crane Golds with a mild street roller and upgraded to Harland Sharps.

I've been running them on a 400 for about 10 years. They've been fine, no complaints.

What's your personal experience with the cranes?

Lets just say they turned into 2 piece rockers  :icon_smile_big:
They're ok for mild builds with hydraulic or solids but if you step up to roller with high spring pressure and you have yrs on them they're like time bombs!
Lot's of guys use them(race) for 1 or 2 seasons then get new ones due to fatigue.
Ron (Firefighter) can back me up on this, he had to come and babysit my car while i got my trailer to haul it home one night.

Thanks again for that Ron!
I owe ya again. ;)

:iagree: Listen to Kevin, he knows what he's talking about and has direct experience with the Crane Golds. His breakage is not an isolated experience either....the same issues have been reported on other boards.  ;)

Inmo, the "Golds" are ok for flat tappet spring pressures but won't last long with a roller cam. The fulcrum area is pretty svelte compared to a superior rocker arm like Harland Sharp, Jesel ot T&D. The sharps are the most economical of the higher end rockers that are compatible with bigger spring pressures. I went with them even though i have a flat tappet cam in my 446 with ~350lbs open pressure. The option to upgrade to a roller profile won't be limited in the future due to the rocker arm choice....that's the decision i made when i purchased them originally.

That being said, if you have a solid or hydraulic cam and don't plan on going with a roller cam in the future then these will last a long time. It's important to have the valvetrain properly setup in terms of seat and open pressure. Valve float is a killer on rocker arms even with mild spring pressures.  :Twocents:

Ps. No problem with the babysitting Kevin....i know you'd do the same for me. Gearheads need to cover each others backs.... ;D

I'm running them on a '64 Max Wedge engine with a Mopar Performance 509 purple cam.  It's not a race engine, just a cruiser.   Two summers in a row I've had rocker arms move out of position so that the valve was being opened by the aluminum casting, not the roller in the center.    Obviously, that didn't work for long.  Last year when it happened, I added shims to put more spring tension on the rockers to hold them in place.  Worked OK this summer, but if it happens again, I'm going to install the stock Mopar Max Wedge rocker arms that came from the factory.

for just slightly more $$ I would use the Comp Pro Magnum stainless rockers personally
