ok  i have a 440  that im going to need to be balanced i know i need the following
pistons and rings
rods
crank
dampener

if im going to run a 4 speed what needs to go with the parts listed above???

if its an auto do you need the flex plate?

Ghoste

The flywheel should already be balanced and if it's an auto, you don't need to send in the flexplate.

I stand corrected on the flexplate.  I've never sent one in before, did it make much difference?

If the engine is to be internally balanced then you don't need to send in the Dampner or Flexplate.  ;)

send the damper & flywheel , even if they are balanced it doesn`t hurt to have them checked

mally69

ok guys thanks i just wasnt sure on that.      what do you guys think about  440source's fluid dampeners???  any you guys use them

does the pressure plate have to be balanced just as the flywheel would?

Not a fan of fluid dampners...their balance cannot be checked due to the viscious fluid inside. I would use a good quality sfi elastomer type dampner. The fluid dampners are often very heavy and the fluid can go solid...throwing engine balance way out of whack and tearing up the bottom end. Some people like them but i sure wouldn't run one. Summit Racing carries the SFI elastomer dampners at a reasonable cost.   ;)

If you're having this engine internally balanced, the dampner and flywheel should not be on the rotating assembly during the balancing process inmo. Balancers and flywheels/flexplates for internally balanced engines are neutral balance. You could have them checked out for neutral balance if you wish, prior to assembly.

BUMP !

GREAT ADVICE  !

Do as Ron said, have the flywheel/flex and dampener checked, I've seen quite a few that were off by a tad, good luck.
