Hey ya'll.
I have a friend with a '71 Charger R/T,, OK TORRED4SPEED, before you say it,,, yes,,, I have friends... Didn't know you were one of them, now didcha...?

Anywho, my "friend" with the '71 is looking to install the 727 overdrive unit from Gear Venders. They say it's pretty much a bolt-in operation.. Yeah, right.. I hear one has to modify the floorpan hump in order to get clearance.. Has anyone here done it and if so, what mod's did you have to do? Sort of uneasy thinking of having to take a sledgehammer to the thing to "make" clearance..

Thanks in advance...

Troy,
Please tell your friend that clearance in the transmission tunnel is usually made through judicious use of a hammer.  This modification is usually covered by the carpet and in most drivers is more than worth the savings in fuel costs.  (If it is driven enough)  BTW the 18 year old Glenfiddich is especially tasty tonight, I may even have another glass.

Thanks Rocky.. There's a member over in the Challenger-Cuda board that had some nice pictures of what you were referring to........  We see the mod's are minimal, so makes banging a lot more pallatable..

I installed a GV unit in my 66. The only place I had to "ding" was the drivers side of the tunnel where the speedo cable adapter mounted to the GV unit. It was just barely hitting the tunnel. Then the rest was a straight forward install.
