My motor has been sitting in the garage for over 6 months.  I did shrink wrap it but want to know the shelf life or safe amount of time it can sit. :shruggy:  Thanks.......................Chuck

Damn Chuck, it's junk now!!! That's ok, I'll give you $50.00 for it and pick it up tomorrow.. At least you'll have a start on the next motor!!

Was the motor pro built? Most of the time machine shops will fog the motor with oil to keep it fresh for a little while. Are the ports all taped up?

If it's going to be a while before you can get it in and running I would shoot some oil into the spark plug holes and put some old plugs in it to seal out moisture. Then squirt some oil into the intake so it lays on the back side of the valves. Then seal up the motor and bag it the best you can. Some kitty litter in an old pillow case placed inside the bag will help pull moisture out of the block. Just make sure it can't get into the motor!!

Otherwise,,,, I'll pick it up soon...

(50 BUCKS) :o That's cool, now I can feed my kids!!! :icon_smile_big: Hey Steve, yes it was pro built.  I would say another 2--3 months and it will go in.  I could do it now but want to wait for paint first. :brickwall: BUT, I have thought about just dropping it in anyway  :ahum: Guess I'd better shoot some oil in it to be safe.....Chuck

Hahahahaha....   Do the paint work under the hood first. You will do a much better job without the motor in the way.. That doesn't mean you have to wait for the full paint job to fire that bad boy up.. BUt yeah, wait. Just fog the motor the best you can. Can't wait to see it done...

Ghoste

Should be no problem at all.  A local beerhound (not me, a different one) has a 340 sitting on a stand in his garage that he has had in storage now for close to 15 years and he doesn't seem to think it'll be any trouble at all.  Not only that, but it will be the most powerful engine this city has ever seen.  I can't wait myself but after that long what's a short time more.

skip68

Well I don't know about 15 years but It's been about 6 months for mine and will be in within the year. And mine will be the most powerful engine that any city has ever seen :yesnod: I'm going to have 27,000 horsepower and 3.5 million ft lbs of torque :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:  OK maybe not, but I will make some tire smoke :METAL:.....Chuck

hahaha....  I think it's funny too!!   If it's all the same, I'll stick with just plain Steve P. ;)

Just FYI, my buddy Ray bought a NEON today that was overheating. When I pulled up to his car lot he was pulling the stat.  YUP, it was stuck wide open....  After the change to a new one he refilled it and we took it for a about a ten mile ride. No overheating problem anymore. He said it had overheated on him bringing it home from the dealership. Less than 7 miles away. He had had it running for a bit at the dealer before leaving with it. We ran it for about 20 minutes before we took it for a 5:00 traffic test run.. No problem.. ;)
