Hello, I am new here, my name is Zack and I live in North Dakota. I own a 70 Coronet 440, my first car, and a 1990 Dodge Power Ram that has been semi restored. My real home is the Dodge Coronet Registry, but my all time favorite car is the 1968 Dodge Charger! I have a question for you guys, I am looking at getting a 1968 Dodge Charger and was wonderin whatcha thought it was worth? It has been sitting since 76, it was hit on the Passenger side ¼ and the rear panel where the taillights mount needs to be replaced. There are dents here and there, and front pass fender has a small spot that was hit. The Car has a 383 that wont run, and 323 sure grip (thats what he says). Buckets, buddy seat, rear speaker, tic toc tack, auto, comes with an extra door, extra quarter (drivers side... go figure) a grill that is perfect, and an extra fender. This is the fender tag.

Does 3500 seem about right? He wants 4500, but that seems too high. Thanks guys, nice to  be here.

I'd say both prices are in the ball park. He could probably get his asking price if he really shopped it but your estimate is pretty fair too. Dents are not really the biggest worry, rust is, and I'd venture to guess the quarters will need replaced more due to rust than dents.

Welcome to the site. I hope you get the car! I love '68s too.

I think I'd snag it right up for $3500.  $4500 is probably not out of line.  Looks pretty complete and solid from what I can see in the pics.  Hard to tell for sure.

Offer $4000 and go from there but the main thing is don't delay.

If you think it's worth even close to that, I'd grab it before someone else does.  $4500 is probably a little high, but, not terrible.  You just aren't going to find a car like the one you're considering for $1500 anymore.  Those days are long gone.

Just bear in mind what your intentions are with the car.  If you want to make it a really nice show car, be prepared to spend BIG bucks.  Being the owner of a Coronet, I'm probably preaching to the choir.

Ok, I went and looked at it today,
THE BAD
It will need a pass side1/4 pnl which is what comes with it, and it is a full 1/4 pnl that goes all the way to the roof.
The pass side rocker needs to be replaced, the drivers side needs a patch.
The pass side, and drivers side lower fenders need work, and has some rust starting.
the drivers floor pan is soft, looks savable
The windshield is cracked, and the driver's side 1/4 glass was broke.
The horn ring is broken, needs a drivers side seat cover, dash pad, carpet, and door panels.
The rings are stuck from sitting.
The rims and tires are shot.
The rear of the pass side 1/4 needs a lot of love!
Pass side fender was pinched by the door, and the front of it is a little banged up.
The rear taillight pan is toast
The rear bumper is toast

THE GOOD!
# matching 383/727
Tinted glass
Power breaks
Rear seat speaker "all there and the radio bezel is good"
Tic toc tack
Hood turn signals "still there"
Bucket seats/with buddy
Solid, trunk, frame, doors, rear window, and most of the floor
Mint grill
Extra full 1/4 pnl
Extra door
Extra taillights

Well what do u think guys, I have a 440/727 that I could toss in to get her running, I would probably just primer the whole thing and drive it like that for the next few years. Still sound like a good deal for $4500, or $3500? I am going to try for a loan now, keep your fingers crossed!!! Thanks a lot!

full quarter panel?  All the way to the roof?  That would have to be a NOS then wouldnt it?  They arent  reproducing them like that yet, are they?  I have seen NOS quarters go for over that 4500 price tag on ebay.

Manfred318

Yea I agree. At that price I would snatch it up quick! That is a beautiful Coronet and Power Ram you have there also. :2thumbs:  :Twocents:

I just moved from Fargo a few months ago and I couldn't find anything close to what I wanted. I ended up getting mine in Mississippi. Gas adds up if you have to travel or have it delivered so keep that in mind too. I would think the numbers matching would make up for some of the other down falls. If you have a 440 to put in, might as well do that and keep the numbers matching engine in good condition sitting around if you ever decide to sell it. If he is firm on $4500, make sure he throws in that plunger that is sitting on the ground behind the car

not a bad project, I bet if you had $3500 in hand that he would let it go.  Welcome to the sight and good luck!

WELCOME to the site,..
i can understand wanting a numbers matching '68 'n all but thats a big project there,.. 'n if your gonna drop in a 440 what's the point of numbers maching anyhow?
If it wasn't exactly what i wanted as a charger (R/T etc.) i'd think twice about tackeling such a can 'o worms..
So  if, you don't care and you just wanna build it your way anyhow, that's fine,.. but I'd rather spend the $ going in,.. then have the car needing so much work it's a garage mounted conversation starter and money pit,..
Saveing a few grand by buying a total project isn't worth it IMO unless it's really a car you wanna bring back because you really really want that particular car... Mine was a real R/T SE so i knew she was gonna be bitchen broght back,.. fourth most asked question i get is If it's a "REAL R/T"...
Lookin at your '70 440 coronet,.. i'mma thinkin Super Bee or R/T clone...
but it's probably too nice to do that to,..  huh?..

In anycase welcome...

Mean 318

The # matching thing isnt that big a deal to me, its just another plus.
I really want a 1968 dodge charger!!!
I am not too worried about the looks right now, just getting it back on the road. I will probly just put it in primer and slowly work on the body.
The quarter looks like it is off of another charger, not NOS.
I am pretty sure In can take it off his hands for $3500.
P.S. THANKS FOR THE GREAT WELCOME!!!!!
