Does this happen to anyone?

Sometimes I get really off track and get hooked on other mopars or once in a great while an AMC. But 2nd gen chargers I love the most(especially 68s). However long I have an interest in the other mopars/AMC, I always seem to come crawling back to the chargers. These short infatuations have led to a few money losing impulse car buys, but I am finally getting a hold of myself(LOL) and sticking to 2nd gen chargers.Just curious if this happens with anybody else or am I the only troubled soul(LOL)!

Only time I ever got really off track was buying a 70 1/2 Camaro and wasted 10k on a total rebuild of motor/interior/paint (canary yellow with black z28 stripes and emblems (clone) But the mopar gods struck me down with lightning for that decision, that car was a money pit from hell and I doubt i drove it more than 2000 miles in the 5 years i had it.  Lost my shirt when sold it.  It was originally purchased as a 1500 quickie project to make some fix up funds for the charger, 10k later, broke, and in misery, sold it and laughed like a loon for doing so. 

That car also got me to swear off pony/muscle cars for almost a decade, next car was a stealth that lasted me 13 years...also cost a fortune to rebuild after it hit 100k miles, more than i spent on the car when i got it new, but i don't begrudge the cash spent on it too much.  It was a mopar (kind of) and a blast to drive, and never lost a race either.  3 years ago i pretty much stopped driving it, and it sits in storage now.

I've pretty much gone to the blue oval for daily drivers, but my real love is the 69 charger r/t se in the garage, if i can ever get around to really doing the minor work to get it roadworthy after sitting in storage for 26 years.  All thats happened is that the parts are harder to find now, and alot more expensive, but on the other hand, around here you almost never see one, even at car shows so its nice to have a unique ride.

I did back when they were all cheap.  The realities of today's pricing and having kids and mortgage on the go works pretty well to keep me focused.

I have stayed with mopars, but yes, I have too many projects and the one I want the most seems to be the one I don't have.  It is a sickness!

I know what you mean! It always seems that there is always a car or project that pops up and tempts you no matter what you have sitting in the garage at home.I guess being into these old cars is a better thing to get hooked on than some other bad vices!

Sh!t dude i want a street rod in a bad way and i had to pass on a '29 plymouth earlier this summer because i was in the middle of my 68 resto, and i'm also in the same boat as Ghoste.  (see my 69 500 timeline below )

my 70 Challenger has been a work in progress for about 15 years now.  I'm sure glad she aint eating nothing or I couldn't afford her!

Ghoste-You probably hit the nail right on the head.No kids,but mortgage and other expenses eat $ up in a hurry and I am slowly learning the hard way to stay true to what got me into these old cars in the first place(my love for 68 R/T chargers).

Since I regained my senses in 1979 and went Mopar straight.  I only wavered once.  Visiting a friend in Ohio, he showed me a 427 side oiler with a rock crushed 4 speed, he had in his garage. It made me think of a 65 Comet, that was for sale, a few doors from my house.  I lugged the 427 and tranny back home and spent the next year putting together a Cyclone clone. with a straight front axle, sewer pipe dumps, the whole works.  Ran it one time at the local 1/8 mile and sold it.  It just wasn't a Mopar!  Did get some good $ for it, though.

  I should be picking up my 71 New Yorker within the next week or two.  Is that off track?
Other than some rust removal on some component parts, the Charger project has just sat in the garage this year.

I have found it is much easier to buy a new project than finish the old one

Unfortunately, I'll have to say that it will be happening to me the next time around.  Not by choice, but, by necessity.  I had a beautiful V-code, 4-speed 70 Charger up until about two years ago.  Circumstances forced me to sell.  I'd love to have another 2nd gen Charger, however, the prices they are ALL bringing today will probably force me to look at either some other Mopar models, or to some of the mid-eighty's GM cars while they are still cheap enough to buy.  I just can't afford to spend $40K for a really nice 2nd gen Charger, or even upper teens for a basically complete car that I'll have to spend another 20K+ on to make it really nice.

I'm now considering Cordobas, 75-78 Chargers and Monacos, and Valiant sedans as the alternatives in the Mopar camp.

I started looking at other 1968-70 B body 2 doors. I bought a 70 Coronet 500. Now I am losing interest and am gravitating rowards the Chargers only again.

I think some people's budget force them to waver away from 2nd gens to other mopars they can enjoy without having to rob a bank.

i hate to hear that. they don't come around that often.  i get side tracked with restoration's of my guitars but as cars go,  I'm a 2nd gen charger  man. except for my motorcycle that's a chevy. Rene

i passed on some pretty cherry brand x cars to finish up my charger,..
one owner all seafoam green 17K mile '66 Toro was the one i really wanted..
also a dark green SS 454 Monte Carlo... i forget the details of that one now except it was stock.
i knew i couldn't split my forces and have any kind of reasonable expectation of finishing in my lifetime..
the one mopar i HAD to pass on was a plum crazy and black 440 six-pack chally whith the S.E. package and elastomeric bumpers, guy wanted $6.5 for it in the early '90s,.. cause he had a baby on the way...
that one still bugs me...

I guess we all have to pick our battles! Roof over our head,food in our stomaches,etc. or car to drive once in a while and look at.I guess that's another way of thinking that it's not all that bad when I pass on a car-that at that moment in time I don't think I'll ever get over passing on,but eventually I get over.For me it was my 68 Plymouth GTX 4speed dana60

No. I am fixated on the '68 Charger. If I were to buy another car it would be a '68 Charger.
