Why ANYONE would hesitate to register is beyond me. It can only help the person who wants to register.

:iagree: :iagree: :iagree:

Chris, this is pretty cool!!!!  I think I'd fall over if someone called up and said they had the N/M engine for my car...

This is a major event for the registry.  This is one of the core purposes of a registry....to reunite owners, parts, paperwork etc.

I will be contacting both parties individually to set up a possible contact......

PS---he is also a member of this site....

Chris

This is the reason I registered my car with you.  It did take some convincing but I eventually did, even though my 440 is long, long gone.

As I stated, this should be a great story and I would hope to hear the outcome.

This would make a great testimonial for the front page of your site Chris.

Shakey (Mike) is your car originally from Ontario ? I'm assuming it doesn't have the #'s engine in it ? The 440 in my 70 r/t is a 69 (E stamp) block....what are the chances ?  ;D

I am sure there are many things that are beyond you!   :nana:

I'll explain to you and Geno why there was some hesitation on my part.

I am relatively new to the hobby as I only bought my car a year and half ago.    Prior to buying the car I poked around the web and read a truckload of negative stuff about the hobby such as e-bay scams, rebodies, theft etc.   :scratchchin:  Then I buy a car, post some pics and people are wanting to know what the VIN # is.   :shruggy:  Put yourself in my shoes!

So, I choose to sit tight and learn a bit more about the 1969 Dodge Charger Registry, what it's all about as well as the fella that is running it.  Make sense?   :yesnod:  Well, needless to say, Chris is a more than just a moderator here, he is diplomatic, helpful and treats all of the members of this site with the utmost respect.  That said a lot as far as my decison making process.  After asking Chris numerous questions as to what the purpose of the registry is / was, I felt comfortable and registered my car.  Make sense?

Sorry for having to insert this story into the thread, but I just wanted to make sure Chris & Geno understood why ANYONE would hesitate.  That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

I'll keep it short and sweet Shake. You didn't really hesitate, you just did some research before registering. Make sense?  ;)  What you did is probably what most do. They come across any registry, look into it a little further and then most likely register.

I think most people that run registries are very easy to get in contact with. I know Myself and Don are, Barry Washington, Chris and many others as well. I think it's pretty easy to see we are all genuine guys who just want to help people in the hobby. And none of us ask for your credit card number when you are seeking info.  ;D

I have paperwork for a guy who won a car off ebay. When I contacted him, he didn't even care. I was hoping to get it to him, but he never kept in contact. I think I would drive half way across the country if somebody had some paperwork on my car. OK, maybe I would just ask him to mail it to me.

darkside

The motor doesn't appear to ever have been been rebuild.Do you know how hard it would be to find another 69 440 hp2 thats un molested.I don't think i would sell it.I'm going to build it for my 69 charger.

hemi68charger

Wow,, complete from pan to air cleaner to fan.......... Don't throw that fan and adaptor away, those are getting harder to find.................

Great score..........

Darkside, I hope you reconsider...perhaps you guys can come to some kind of deal?  HP2 blocks ARE out there, perhaps if Miamivice can replace the block at least and let you keep the accessories.  Not as cool as having the whole thing, but hey, better than nothing.  If I had an RT/SE and I knew where the original motor was I'd be awake at night trying to come up with a way to get it.

Did you buy that car off ebay? It would take some serious money to get me to sell the engine.I looked for a long time  to find a E 69 440 hp.You can find 71 up 440's all day long but everyone wants to keep the hi-po's.

defiance

Just curious; why are you concerned with the year?  I know the hp was different, but if you're doing any kind of build-up, that really won't matter...  Are you planning to keep the motor in stock config?

Because my car is a 69 charger.I haven't made up my mind on the build yet.

Does this mean you're holding Miami Vices' matching numbers engine for ransom ? I sure hope not ! If he can find another HP engine for you i don't see what the big issue is  ???

There's no difference between an Hp block and a non Hp block.....they're all the same. In many cases the Non Hp blocks are better candidates for an overbore due to thicker cylinder walls and less core shift.   ;)

A numbers matching car only has one chance to be numbers matching.  :yesnod:

I thought I was hard to get along with.

Come on if you get another 440 whats the difference ? If this guy has proof-like a copy of the title or a registration and you can see for yourself it was in that car it would be only right for the motor to go back in that car. Think if it was the other way around.

I am on here to help others with their hobby-I have been fooling around with cars for 25 years now so its only right that I try to help others. When I was young older guys used to drop by my garage and help me out. This is my way of saying thanks I guess.

Please think about it-that motor won't be any differant than another old 440 but for some reason # matching means alot for some people. You came on here to get help but now you are saying well I don't think I will help others , that is not right.

Just 6T9 CHGR

Oh boy.  This is NOT what I hoped would happen.   In my dream of "perfect registry bliss" this would be a smooth transaction of sorts.  I see it is not the case.

While I agree that a car can be #'s matching once, I also agree with the engine owners prerogative.   He found it, bought it and wants to keep it.  Bottom line.  You cant flame the guy for that.....you can wholeheartedly disagree with him but thats all...

darkside, have you talked to miamivice about the situation at all?   This whole deal should be between you and him and thats all.  Don't let anyone else try to sway either of you.

I am going to lock this topic now for this reason.

Please keep us & myself updated of the outcome either way.

PS---I agree with firefighter3931

PSS----don't tell anyone but my old engine in my R/T was "stamped" E440HP but it really was a 440 out of a '77 Newport   :leaving:  ...my new one is a '73 :drive:
