I go to Las Vegas a few times per year and I'd be happy to offer up some ideas.  I'll take some time on Tuesday when I am back in the office.

There is lots of things to do in Las Vegas if you are not in to gambling.  I've spent so much time there that I am almost sick of it!   :D

Hotels - set you budget an take your pick but of course pick something in the heart of the strip.  I've stayed at Bally's, The Venetian, Treasure Island, Stardust, Bellagio, Ceasar's Palace.  All of them nice with the exception of the Stardust.  Kinda scritty, real old school Vegas.

Listed below are some places I have been to and enjoyed very much.  Not sure if you're planning on a family vacation, a trip with the Wife or something work related.  Most of times that I have been were work related so my expense account was taking a beating.

DINING

STEAK
Delmonico Steakhouse – Venetian – Emeril Lagasse's place
Bally's Steakhouse – Bally's – seafood platter as an appetizer

ITALIAN
Zeffirino Restaurant – Venetian – book a table overlooking the canal

CASUAL
Mon Ami Gabi – Paris – great spot for a blue-cheese burger on the patio while people watching

COCKTAILS
There are hundreds of places in Las Vegas to have a drink.  After seeing many of them, below are two of my favourite spots.  Park yourself anywhere in any casino, plug a few quarters into a slot machine and a lovely lady will be by to offer you a free drink.

Napoleon's – Paris – one of my favourite spots in Vegas to sit and have a drink after a hard days work.  Get a spot by the window and be sure to order "Kronenburg 1664", a French beer.  During happy hour they offer up free sandwiches (which are pretty good) and the dueling pianos are kind of neat.

Fontana Bar – Bellagio – a great night spot to enjoy a drink and listen to the band.  Try and get there at a decent time as you may have to wait for a table.  It will be worth it.  Every 15 minutes, head out to the patio to watch the fountains even though the best spot to watch the fountains is from the sidewalk in front of the hotel.

HOTELS TO VISIT - LOBBY & CASINO WALK-THROUGHS
Bellagio
Caesar's Palace
The Venetian
Paris
New York, New York
The Alladin
The Mirage
The Rio
Wynn

INTERESTING SIGHTS
The fountains at the Bellagio – night time is best – a must!
The pirate show at Treasure Island – kinda neat.
The volcano at The Mirage – as you walk by
The Grand Canal shops in The Venetian – shopping at its finest
Fremont Street at night – a cab ride away if you run out of things to do – this is in Downtown Vegas.

AUTOMOTIVE
Car collections at the Imperial Palace, Caesar's and the Wynn.

SHOWS
Take your pick.  Always something to see.  I saw Wayne Newton in 1990 (ya, I know) and a few other shows over the years.  They can be pricey so pick one you know you'll enjoy.  The new Beatles show is supposed to be amazing.

This should just give you an idea of some of the things to do.  Check the www and you'll see that there is much, much more.

We always stay at the Excaliber.  Last time we went we took my daughter to see the Lance Burton magic show.  She got to go on stage and be his assistant for awhile.  It was cool but expensive.  Book your seats early and you can get in the front row like us.  PF Chang's is good for dinner if you like Chinese.  There is a killer seafood buffet at the RIO if you like that.  Be sure to visit the Hooters casino.  The Hard Rock Cafe is loud, overpriced and has crappy food in my opinion.  You must go to freemont street it is awesome old Vegas at it's best.  The startosphere is very cool too.  If you want to get totally hammered on one drink go to a place called Fat Tuesdays in the Stratosphere and order up a 190 octane.  We almost didn't get my buddy back to the Hotel after he drank about half of one.  The valley of fire, red rock, and the Hoover Dam are good sight seeing trips if you have a car.  We don't really gamble but there is so much to do in vegas besides gamble that your sure to have fun.  Just take plenty of money.  On a side note if you happen to decide to get a tattoo don't go to Hart & Huntington unless you have a buttload of money.  Their prices are out of sight.  We ended up going to a place called the tattoo factory and got awesome work for a fair price.  The place is clean and the people are super friendly.  I have many more suggestions but I'll leave it at that for now.

i happened to be in vegas the weekend they opened the monorail (that i hear was shut down dont know if its going again) it was a neat way to see the strip and some of the hotells from a distance. I also could have seen RUSH, they were at mgm grand , we were at the tix counter 45min before show time and the girl i was with and her sister in law didnt wana "blow $40 each" (like that was a big deal) her brother and i almost told em to go do what they wanted, but the woemen won out   :flame: if i had to do it again i would have gone alone if i had to find them later.
everybody i know says spend a week the first time min, or youll never see all you want to. i was only there for 3 days and it wasnt near enough.

Ive only stayed a few places in Vegas.

So far Mandalay Bay is easy the best pick.

I liked it enough to go there like 3 times in a row.

The last time I went to Vegas I decided to change up the pace some, and stay someplace else.

I decided on Excaliber. And ACK...  :-[ . Hated the joint.  The lobby "aka" inside the pyriamid

is simply awesome. But the rooms suck.

Next trip I will be staying at Mandalay Bay again and if I get the urge to see inside Excaliber again,

Ill just walk across the street and go look.

I think Mandalay Bay is a pretty "safe" first time bet. Its HUGE and you dont even have to go outside

to get your fill of Vegas.  The pool is awesome the rooms are nice and if you stay at "the hotel" at Mandalay Bay

they are really really nice. Plenty of food, drinks and shopping in the casino itself, plus there are a ton of shops

on the first skywalk. Its also one of the first casinos on the way into Vegas if you are come from CA, so you dont

have to deal the the madness of the strip if you dont want to.

Are you talking about the Excaliber or the Luxor?  The Luxor has the pyramid.
