Water pump housing thingie?

I started tearing apart the front of my 440, as there seems to be a leak from the back of the water pump housing. To the left (as you stand looking at it) of the coolant temperature sensor, is what appears to be a vacuum tee with three connections on it. Only two are visible in the pic, the third is on the rear. Am I to assume this gets plumbed into the EGR system somehow? If anyone knows what it is, how do I hook it back up? It has never been hooked up as long as I have had it, and quite honestly, I have never even noticed it before, being buried under the AC stuff and all. The engine is a 73 model 440 from a C bod. It has a 4bbl Thermoquad, AC, PS, and the New Yorker it came out of also had cruise control. Thanks in advance,Kenny

myk

I think I might've had something like that, but I took it off as it does not need to be there or, I've never used it for anything.  Did 440 engines use EGR systems?  I don't think so, but I guess it would depend on what year...

My 71 Charger R/T has that kab.  Did some research.

It operates off of vaccuum and temperature (it's a sensor, that's why it's located where it is).

When the temperature of the engine rises at an idle, it changes the vacuum, allowing the engine to rev a few 100 rpm higher to 1) cool it down, and 2) emissions reduction.

I plugged mine off.  Less vacuum hoses to leak and clutter up the engine bay.

*Speed costs money son, how fast do you want to go, and for how long?"
*"Build the biggest engine you can afford the first time."
*"We normally wouldn't use a 383 for this build, parts and labor for a 440 cost the same."

If you aren't going to hook it up then just remove it and replace with a pipe plug.  That will clean things up a bit.

I sent the cruise stuff to Texas along with the near mint interior. Yes, the WHOLE interior! It took two days of carting to UPS and building the crate on site. I sold the cruise and interior and a bunch of miscellaneous crap all to the same guy for the $500 I paid for that rotbox. Alot of that car still exists on my 69 Charger today. But, sorry, Nacho- I don't have the cruise stuff anymore.

So,it gets plumbed from the manifold vacuum tee, to the carb and to the vacuum advance on the distributor?

Something like that.  I'd have to find my 71 manual.  IIRC, it had a diagram, showing which port did what, and hose routing, etc.

I have the haynes manual with those hose routing diagrams form 71 up 89, but don't have a scanner... if I find the way, I'll post.

...

Maybe if you get me the cruise control system I would find the way sooner but...

LOL... is a joke.
