I've been through some crazy landings, but that one is ridiculous. :o :icon_smile_blackeye:

Makes me wonder if it could be fake.  ???

This one shows some amazing skill and finesse:

Does anyone else have any cool avaition clips?

Preferably ones where the aircraft and pilot/passengers survive.  :yesnod:

The 747 one has been around for a while. The pilot did that due to a cross wind he was fighting. Troy can probably fill us in on the proper name of the wind and manuever.

Isn't that the Hong Kong airport? I think I read somewhere that planes had to land like that because of the runway location. Of course I could be wrong. :icon_smile_big:

You're right as in it being in Hong Kong but they aren't supposed to land like that. Also, read the "blog" under the video to see what another pilot who's flown in Hong Kong said about the video.

The plane is "Crabbing" into the wing to stay over the runway then just before the landing flare the pilot performs a "sideslip" to align the longitudinal axis of the airplane with the runway by dipping wing into the wind which would ordinarily cause a turn and applying opposite rudder.

It's fun!

He's flying into Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong.  As the runway exteds out into the bay, you get ridiculous crosswinds.  That's not a problem at the new airport.  I have landed at Kai Tak where I've been able to look down the runway out my window.

It was a checkerboard approach..very unstable approach procedures in most cases..Kai tak
Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong -Solaris

:o :o :o :o :o Those sideway landing are one good reason I hate flying :rotz: Controled crashes they look like.
