Why is the Speedometer a pain to put in?

Is it just me or is that little booger a pain to hook up into the back of the dash.  I'm trying to push it into the back of my cluster on my 73.  It goes on, but I keep trying to push it up and nothing.  The tab won't click on to hold it.  Is there a certain position the tab has to be?  Any tips on how to make this task easier?

Have you tried twisting it a little to make sure the drive cable engages the speedo head?

Judhudson

Yeah, the cable does go into the little hole, I just can't seem to get it to go on far enought to clip on.

is not uncommon, ( at least for me ) that the tab doesn't keep engough hard the plug on place, since loose its hard property. I had the same problem and what I made is just bend the plastic tab untill it looks will hook the groove on back of speedo VERY CAREFULLY, since you can broke it.

Okay, after closer examination, no wonder it wouldn't go in!  Since my eyes aren't that great to begin with, I didn't notice that the tab from the cable was already broken off :P  So yea.....

you can allways try to fit the speedo plug to speedo back with crazy glue LOL. Not, seriouslly, you can do it. Will keep the plug in place and if you need to remove the wire, just pull it off is enough. There is not in the world really a glue able to sold definitelly between plastic and metall.
