Production number question (R/T Daytona - later models)

So I had a collector come in who was very interested in the R/T Daytonas that are out, and he was wondering about the collectability of the vehicle. Naturally, I went ahead and got his number, and plan to get ALL the information I POSSIBLY can on the R/T Daytonas, and each year (new) they were made, how many, how many are still available, etc. etc. Sadly he was interested in the manual tranny, but it doesn't appear to be available from the factory at all.

Anyways, the question is this: Does anyone know of a good place to get such production numbers and what not? I talked to the General Sales Mgr of my store, and he did say he could get them, but he's going to be gone until Monday, and I need to find these numbers by Friday at 10am. I've had trouble locating this on Dodge's site, and will only find out tomorrow if I can get the number to the corperation and/or factory to find this stuff out. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

The last year of the Charger Daytona was 1969. If you're seeking info on something, um, newer, your best bet is this site: http://www.lxforums.com/board/

In the meantime you can confirm the fact that there were no manual transmissions unless the "manumatic" counts. There are no years (plural) to worry about since they are an '06 model and I would think it's pretty safe to say their collectability would be right up there with the Toyota Camry, only they won't hold their value as well. If you have a client who wants to invest in automobiles he should think about classic Chargers or any other classic muscle car because other than (maybe) the Viper and Prowler I don't see there being any collectible, late-model Mopars out there. Nowadays cars are like computer systems, two months and they're ancient history. Call me short-sighted but I just don't foresee people 30 years from now dragging '06 Chargers out of barns and bushes to restore.

If you are asking about the new '06 R/T Daytona, the factory runs 4000 of each color.  The GoMango were first, then the Top Banana (Solar Yellow) and now the Red are being run.  I don't know about the collectibility of them since I don't see plastic surviving UV rays that long or in reproduction three decades from now.

I tell people to buy it because you like the car not because of the name or some future investment potential. I suspect there are a lot of "new" mustangs on blocks as investments.  There are better things to do with that kind of money.  In 30 years you can buy one off someone else and have cash left over.

Hi Wes,

Dodge made a Daytona in 1969.  I think only 503 of them were made.  As to how many still exist, there are a few folks on here that have done extensive research on these vehicles and will gladly share with you what they know.

Dodge also made a Daytona in the '80's and '90's.  I think there were quite a few of them made, not sure how many.  As far as their collector status, not sure where it sits on a list of desireable cars.

And of course, as you know, Dodge has resurected the Daytona name for 2006.

To answer your question:

You'll find a lot of useful information about the classic Daytona on these two web sites.

http://wwnboa.org/

http://aerowarriors.com/cgi-bin/banner/home.cgi

Another site that covers all three generations:

http://www.allpar.com/model/daytona.html

There are most likely many others, but these are the first three that come to mind.  You will also find some useful information on this site in the Aero Cars section if you're interested in the classic version.

Perhaps your customer would be interested in the SRT version of the new Charger?  From my understanding, they are not making as many as those.

Good luck with the sale.

I'd like to start by thanking you all for the responses, and it looks like I've got a little bit of homework cut out for me, heh. As mentioned it was the new daytonas that he was looking at, so I've got to really start checking all of this out. As for the original Daytonas, and the classic Chargers in general, that's definately a personal interest which I'll be spending time learning about (along with many other classic cars that I've had interest in for sometime), but for now, I've been working 12 hours daily with a 3 hour commute, and any spare time I get has to go towards customers (harsh for a while yet, heh). I'll be sure to let the customer know about these things, and look into the SRT-8 as well, though I'm not sure if I'll compare the new Daytona to a Camry  ;D

Again, thanks for your time guys, I really appreciate it! And thanks a bunch for all of the useful links :)

I also agree that predicting the "Collector Value" of any new car is a crap-shoot at best.   But that being said, in reference to the new "Charger", I would guess that the "Road & Track" Edition of the R/T models would be the most likely to be collectable....   Only reason I say this is, while I was researching buying a new Charger for my wife, I noticed this Road & Track Package as an addition to the R/T model, they ARE NOT the same thing!   While I was looking, I found that many dealers didn't even realize that a Road & Track package even existed....     The Road & Track package is all of the performance attributes of the Daytona, ie; the upgraded brakes, wheels, etc., but none of the (IMO) gawdy body styling features of the Daytona itself.    While I was looking around Denver and Colorado Springs, I only located ONE Road & Track Packaged Charger, as compared to several Daytonas, and not one of the dealers knew that there was even a difference.

The only one I found was a Onyx Black sitting on a back lot in a line of standard R/T's....   No one even realized it was there until I pointed it out...

Above all, remember this is only my opinion, and I didn't end up buying one for the simple reason I doubt the collector value of any new "Charger"...   While intial quality seems to be alright, I can't see these ever surviving 30 years, much less being of any comparable value to my '69.

There's always the SRT-8 like you stated ealier, but again, I've seen a number of those on the road already.....  collectible??  I doubt it.
