My car currently has a six pack on it and I'd like to remove it and put a 4 barrel carb and intake manifold back on since my R/T was originally a 4bbl car. I need help in selecting a carb and intake manifold. I want the correct factory look. I will also need the linkages and kickdown cables associated with the 4 barrel. Where can I get a complete setup? I know that paddock sells rebuilt oem carbs but I'm not sure about the quality. Some people have reccomended a Holley 750 vac secondary. But what intake manifold? I appreciate any and all assistance. Thanks

If you want to be "correct", you need a factory cast iron dual plane and a Carter AVS. I don't believe anyone sells a complete kit, but repro kick-down kits are available.

If you're after a stock look at a glance, you are limited to what will fit under the stock aircleaner. That pretty much means a low-rise dual plane, although a Holley Street Dominator single plane might fit.

For an otherwise stock 440, a Holley 750 vacuum secondary would probably be the way to go. Expect to have to jet it up a bit.

yes I'm looking for a stock look at a glance. I really want to use the original air cleaner. Thanks for the advise. Anyone else.

The old Edelbrock CH4B manifold looks like stock but is a much better piece. They come up for sale on e-bay fairly often. If you want to stick with a factory iron manifold, the 70-71 440 hp manifold is the one to have.

Like Jim said the 750 vacuum secondary carb works fine on a stock engine. If the motor has headers, cam etc...you might want to consider an HP series carb for ease of tuning.

like (firefighter3931) said the  CH4B  is better

also mopar m1  aluminum duel plane looks the same as the original cast iron piece, also weiand make one a duel plane  in aluminum , looks stock, and gives the same hood clearance , both are better than a stock intake . but as  you know you  will lose power against a six pack with one of these intakes . edelbrock performer & thunder are good carburetors  in my opinion , not as complicated as a holley   ( but a  holley is   better and more tuneable ). and  they look the same as a carter AVS  plus  they do a 750 and a 800 cfm .

The Mopar Perf M1 dual plane with a Edelbrock 750 or 800 cfm carb is what I'd use.  You can get the factory kickdown setup to work with that combo or buy an aftermarked cable kickdown.

If you have the room the Edelbrock Performer RPM is a great manifold.  It will still look stock to most people if you paint it engine color.  It might not fit under your hood though.

Try to find the Edelbrock CH4B intake. Take it to a machine shop of sorts and have them grind off any lettering on it. Then paint it engine color and go do some burnies. :icon_smile_evil:  But I didn't officially say that though..

Hey that aircleaner looks familiar :scratchchin:

Also under that aircleaner is a 750 vac sec Holley on top of a CH4B manifold....just like we discussed in the PM's

I can't believe that no one else asked what he intends on doing with the 6 bbl set up.

I still can't believe that you run a Holley chris, a detailed engine bay like that deserves to have a Carter Carb.

myk

I have a piece of masking tape over the lettering with carb jetting and timing specs on it.  Hey, I had to put them somewhere handy. :icon_smile_big:

I'm pretty sure I'm going with this carb: Holley Street Avenger 770 square bore, vac sec, elec choke

Now for my intake manifold, I'm going with a used Edelbrock CH4b for $125 or Mopar perf intake 4529118

or Weiand low rise dual plane:

If money isn't an issue, what is the best manifold for that carb I want? I don't want a complicated installation/setup process so pick the best one from this list. ;D

Does this seem like a good setup? Can someone direct me where to buy the throttle cable linkage (if nesc) and kick down cable (if nesc). I currently have a 6-pack.

Also, I need a air cleaner drop plate (if I use the Edelbrock or Mopar)  so I can utilize the stock air cleaner. Which one fits and which one do I buy?

THANKS SO MUCH

True, but I like to balance form & function.  The Holley to me is a much more reliable choice that is easier to tune/modify.

I used a drop base from a Ford Motosport aircleaner under the lid of the stock wrinkle finish aircleaner (which is getting pretty hard/expensive to find lately......)
The pic you posted above is before I used the drop base.....which you really dont need but I was sick of the aircleaner rubbing the hood pad......Below is a pic with the drop base on....

Well, I decided to go with the Weiand low rise intake manifold. I emailed AR Engineering to see if I need their throttle bracket kit or if I can use the stock brackets since the intake is similar in size to stock. Maybe someone can chime in.

The Wiend DP is a good manifold. I'd place it ahead of the M1 dual plane and behind the ch4b in the pecking order. It's pretty much a stock appearing manifold so the factory linkage will work.

I have the H.S.A. 770 on a weiand stealth,..
seems to work pretty good,.. but i'm no expert...

Chryco Psycho

I would be using an 850 on a 440 , big step down from 1000+ cfm with the 6 pack to a tiny 750

I'm selling my 6 pack becuase my car originally came with a 4 barrell from the factory. I"m trying to return it back to stock. Plus the six pack is too complicated for me to tune and not many people around here are familiar with it.

I bought a new carb and intake so thanks for the advice.
