Which is your Favorite Year of the charger? and please explain why...

1966-1967
1968
1969
1970
1971
1972-1974
Other: Please List

FastbackJon

Used to like '68 the best (our blue '68 R/T) until I got a '66. I do like and appreciate all the years from '66 up through '74. Wouldn't mind a '69 or '70 R/T in my garage as well. But I have to say out of all of them I like the '66 the best because it has the most character, and it was the first, the original, when they wanted to pack it full of all the good stuff and they made that stuff standard. After that first year they started taking away cool standard features to cheapen the car to make it more appealing to the average person and the lower incomes and it kept going downhill from there...

'67 - no more: standard woodgrain wheel, full length console, inside hood release, electroluminescense in the console shifter, column automatic now available

'68 - no more: 4 bucket seats, trunk carpeting, metal grille, grille/trunk medallions, electroluminescent dash lighting, space age looking dash gauges, standard tachometer, and the slant 6 was now available

starting Jan 1st 1968, shoulder belts are mandatory (booo)

'70 - bench seats now available

etc

The second generations do have a gorgeous body though. I might liken the second generation to a gorgeous blonde bimbo that all the guys notice right off the bat but also for whom there is no depth, whereas I would associate the first generation with a classy dark haired woman who is intelligent (might wear glasses) and hot and beautiful but doesn't know it... but that's just me.

69 was my favorite when I was 13-14 because of the dukes.  When I turned 16, I had enough money to buy one, but by 1986, there were not to many for sale, only found 1 charger and it was a 68.  I bought it and it instantly became my favorite.   would never own another year charger unless the price was really really really really right..

What is it about 68 that changed your mind?

Gotta be the '68!  Even if FastbackJon likens them to a street hooker.  Judging from the poll results, I guess we know what appeals to most of us guys.

I like the 69 the best.  I love the split grille, and the tail lights of a 69.  I fell in love with that year, many moons ago, and swore I'd have one some day! :yesnod:

And yet you slap on a 70 Charger spoiler and use the 70 Charger style V21 versus the 69 style.

Interesting.

What is it about 68 that changed your mind?

probably the grill with no I piece.  I had basically never seen a 2nd gen in person until I bought one.  the only reference I had was the generl lee.  tough to see the I piece with the pushbar there.  also, the interior.  I am not a fan of woodgrain

I also like the tailights better.

Okay, maybe I'll put it this way. I drive my '68 Charger R/T for other people's enjoyment. I drive my '66/'67 Chargers for my enjoyment. Which is why I drive the '66/'67's a LOT more than the '68 R/T. I've only had the '68 out once this year. To me the '66/'67s are just a way more fun car to drive.

The poll I don't think can really count for anything except the number of users with each year of car because each person is going to be biased to which year of car they happen to own, unless the person owns multiple years or generations, and then they can really get a better fairing on what they like. For example I've never owned a third generation, although I would like to. So I say the '66 is my favorite but how can I know since I've never owned a '71 R/T...? If I did, I might like it the best, who knows. I just know I have owned 4 '66's, 1 '67, and 1 '68 R/T and I like them in that order.

Just check out these lines...

I really need a bumper sticker that says "ONCE YOU GO FASTBACK..."

Streetwize

Gotta say the 70, although for styling it's a dead tie with the 68 which I also love.
I love the 69 too but....
The tie-breakers are:

High back buckets, 70 SE seats are the nicest in any mopar and the only second gen with Sporty seats
Pistol Grip...Debued in 1970
1970 the only second gen Charger that won the NASCAR Championship for Dodge...Bobby Issac!!

Love the 68 then the 69 then the 70.

If the 69 kept the 68 tail lights with the 69 grille, that would have been a really killer looking car.  :Twocents:

this is easy...hands down the 71 (rt's and super bee's) then the 72's why? last year for hemi, six packs, spoilers, (71) first and only year for the super bee, flusher door handles, ventless side glass (never liked that on the 68-70's) ramcharger hoods, bulge hoods, colored bumpers, the list goes on... :2thumbs:

69 :drool5: I still remember going to the Dodge dealer almost every Saturday and getting the new booklets, and when I saw the 69 and that beautiful split grille, that was it to this very day.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

1972Rallye

Well, it should be pretty obvious if you look at my sig...
Why: The curves... some of the most beautiful curves I've ever seen that weren't on a woman!  :drool5:   Wide, curvy hips and a slender waist...  uh, I'd better stop...   :D   Also, in 71 (especially) & 72, the options were amazing! So many cool possibilities on one car.  :2thumbs:

With regards to the poll, I agree 71 & 72 should have been together (or 72 seperate from the 73-74).
