Hey gang..
I have a friend who's converting his original 4-piston caliper disc brake setup to a single-piston setup('70/'71).. Anyone know of any pitfalls or good/bad experiences? The '69 Charger is an original power disc brake car(4-piston)...
Any input would be greatly appreciated. I've personally never converted a '69 and all my '70/'71's were original disc brake cars, hence I have no personal experience.... We're concerned about valving and all.. I would think it would all work. He has all the hardware for the single-piston conversion, i.e, spindles, calipers, rotors, etc...

Thanks,
Troy

Think I got some feedback from another forum.. Seems I've forgotten that the 4-piston is rear-mounted and this has no clearance issue with the front sway bar assembly. Since the '70 set-up is a front-sided caliper mounting configuration, there is obstruction now with the '69 swaybar setup.......

Troy,

I recently removed my 70's type set up from my charger since I put it back to factory specs. The only clearance issue I had which was not that bad was the rubber brake line that came out from the caliper was fairly close to the shock.  Aside from that, I had no clearance issues with the sway bar.  On a side note, I am bringing the entire front hub/brake assemblies to Carlisle to try and sell them.

Nacho...
Yes, the '70/'71 is a single piston version........... The caliper is mounted forward of the spindel........

Here is a picture of my hose setup. The calipers are rear mounted. I am using 73 dart spindles. cordoba 11.75" rotors, and 80 volare calipers. The summit part numbers for the hose are: AER-FBM2939, RUS-64129, and RUS-655022. It would probably be cheaper to have custom hoses made. I saw premade stainless hoses on eBay for this type of swap 6 months ago. I'm not sure if they still sell them.

That is the best rear hung hose setup that I've ever seen on the internet.  I've seen some really horrible looking rear hung caliper hose jobs.  Congrats on getting it right.

Thanks for the compliments guys. There are three places to make adjustments on this type of setup, so be sure to run check the hose with the wheels at full lock in both directions, at the limits of suspension travel. On a side note, I originally tried 80 volare hoses. I read that they would work, but wasn't able to get them to fit without kinking or touching the wheel at full lock.

I've got front mounted calipers, and 11.75" rotors on mine. They are the pin-type calipers. Also, I have the later-type sway bar.

Previous owner did the conversion. There are some pictures floating around here attached to a previous post.
