rear "opera" windows or not?

I can't stand OPERA, so when I first heard that the three tiered windows on my rear sides of my SE were called opera windows I wanted to throw up.
ANyhow, has anyone just taken the inner and outer pieces off of a car with them and make it look good still?  Is there anything else different besides those two pieces (and obviously the wholes that the screws go into)?
I'm debating... If anyone has before after pics, that would be cool to see. ;D

You can convert over to a regular hardtop charger fairly easily, the hardest part i beleive is extending your driprail.  Adding the rolldown rear quarter windows would probably be the second hardest part but thats extremely easy if you dont mind fixed windows.  The "cheap" models quarter windows were just bolted in place.

So were the SE models the only ones to have opera windows?  I'm wondering if its a dead give away that the car is wimpy, since it seems from what I've seen that SEs were not usualy coming with big blocks under the hood.

Ive seen lots of SEs with 318s or 400s, so it could go either way really.  I think it was just more of an extra option package.  I thought the SE was the only ones to come with opera windows but I was wrong, there was a "spring special"? charger that had the opera windows minus louvers i think.  Im not real familiar with those, but in general you are right the SE cars all had louvers the base models and rallyes etc didnt.

Its just a matter of opinion whether you like them or not.  I dont really like the look of them for a performance car.  If I was building a 318 driver I might not mind, and theres some colors that really make them look good like triple white.  Its not hard to remove them from the car though, they are just screwed in place and filled around the edges with putty from the factory.

Unless im forgetting something it seem like all you will need to have  is quarter windows to install from a hardtop car (and regulators if you want them to roll down), a way to extend your drip rail, and rear upper interior panels (including sail panel) from a hardtop car.

The windows on an SE aren't really opera windows, they are Louvred Windows. But what's in a name anyway? The SE was the top of the line Charger. And I have seen BB and SB in them.Even the 440 was availible in them.Converting them to a Hardtop is not as easy as most would have you believe. When you remove the louvres, you will find a metal " support" right by the door opening. That would have to be removed.
The SE was still a hot looking car anyway but it's your car.

The Opera Window is more or less just a frame around the window like the louvers or (gills), but with the center section removed.

Yep thats right I was tired when I posted that.  The weatherstrip/rail that it attatches to is also different.  Still not too hard if you have a donor car but a little more difficult than I remembered.

there are several threads about that, don't remember if GD section or paint and body section, but there are several including pics.
