Am I missing a Wire Harness of Some Sort?: 68 Charger

Gentlemen and gals, getting ready to start laying out the carpet after I finish installing the sound/heat barrier on the interior. Just completed the dashboard installation. I see that a plug ends by my driver side door towards the rear in the same area where I have some wire clips I just installed in the floor pans that I removed when I got my car. These clips are located beneath the car seats. I seem to be missing a harness that leads to the center console. I looked through all my boxes and nothing! Is this the fact, that it gets plug in that solitary plug or does the wire harness for the console get fed from the dash board area? My Charger supposedly came complete, but in boxes so that's why I ask.

I'm getting the sense that I have to buy something else.................I'm starting to feel a vibration in my wallet!  :rotz:

Mopar codes are:
Orange, Cluster ( and related ) ilumination.

Black wires maybe are back up lamp ( in and out )... Isn't the back up sensor a shifter mounted switch on 68 instead the NSS on tranny since 69 ?

yellow wire is normally a door ground &/or courtesy light system. Door ground is negative and courtesy light controlled by time flasher is positive, but both are related on same kind of use.

Violet... it could be a constant positive if yellow drives ground door switch thinking on courtesy light is not time flasher delay controlled.

Those are my thoughts

Hi Nacho. The shifter has the switch with a wire plug. I'm wondering if the plug that is on the photo is part of the console wiring. The console has the two cortesy lights. I was just wondering if anyone had a photo of what this missing wire harness link looks like and does it come from the dash or that solitary plug just sitting there. Thanks again bud!

That is indeed your console wiring.

Let me dig through some boxes, I may have that harness you need.

TA-DA!    Who loves ya man ?

Hey Rolling Thunder I have that one in my console. The question is, what goes between the console one (the one you show in the picture above)and the pigtail that I show in my photo? What does the missing link looks like?

Hey Rolling Thunder you might have a good point there! I might have the harness wrapped to far back! If I unwrap it towards the front of the car it might make it across under the seat and reach the center console! I have to check that out. I have the body harness inside a protective anti abrasive and moisture wrap - very good stuff! The harness was out of the Charger when I got it - I still drove around anyway  :icon_smile_big:

Rolling_Thunder

probably the case - just need to unwrap it a bit...   i cant see the factory making an extension just to cover the legnth of a whole like 3 ft.

That's what it was! I unwrapped it and it follows the path under the seat and bingo, plugged in right on the money!! I even installed the two small clips that secure/hold the harness in place. Thanks for the feedback.

I, too, am missing this wiring harness for my '69. Console harness gone for sure. Can't find the other section anywhere under the dash.  Can anybody help a brutha out? :smilie_help:

The feed for the center console harness does not come from under the dash in the center by the console. The plug (gray) that feeds the center console is part of the wire harness that goes from the bottom left kick plate area all the way to the tail lights via the left side (driverside) of the vehicle. Yes it does originate at the dashboard, but it travels to the driverside kick plate are to the rear. By the driverside seat area, there should be this plug as shown in my photo above. This plug will extend from the door frame towards the center console. You will them plug in the center console harness to it. I hope this helps you. Do you have the center console wire harness?

Okay, I will look under the carpet. But no, I do not have the console harness.
