A buddy of mine called me up the other day and asked me if I was interested in a 383.  I told him I didn't have any funds right now but I appreciated the offer.  He then said that he would have his friend give me a call anyways.  I agreed and a couple of days later the guy called me and said I could have the complete 383 AND the 727 trans for FREE!!!  All I had to do was pick it up and it was mine.  Here's some pics.  The motor needs a complete rebuild but it is all there.  Trans looks in pretty good shape as well.  Looks like it will take me about a year but I will finally have a big block. :icon_smile_big:

Well, at least you didn't have to talk him down any. ;D

Looks like he's also got a Vmax in his posession too (last pic). :scope:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

great score. 383s have been lucky for me. I had a buddy give me a '67 Charger that he got off a guy. The Charger had been sitting in the woods for about 12 years, and was pretty ruff. Then a few years later I traded another buddy the 383/727 out of the Charger for
a '69 road runner body. Then my Uncle gave me a '71 383 for the road runner(used a rebuilt 440 out of another car instead), then I picked up a '69 383 for $180.

Is that a Holley Street Dominator aluminum intake in the box?  Don't make those anymore for 383/400's, and usually sell for $100+.

*Speed costs money son, how fast do you want to go, and for how long?"
*"Build the biggest engine you can afford the first time."
*"We normally wouldn't use a 383 for this build, parts and labor for a 440 cost the same."

Nice motor sling  how much was that style?

Nice score on the motor and tranny by the way.

very cool, nothing like a big block and those trannies are cheap to rebuild. Rene

It kinda looks like the old Weiand manifold I had on my 383.

Actually it's an Edelbrock Torker 383 intake.  It's still nice and I may use it depending on my rebuild.  I'll probably go with a Performer RPM though when it's all done.

Good eye!!  The V-Max is my friend's.  I'm using his garage to store my motor as I currently don't have my own garage.   :rotz:
