Bad neutral safety switch?

No crank with key in start unless I ground the NSS tab on the starter relay, meaning it can start in any gear. I have continuity between the center pin and the body of the NSS. I also have continuity across the brown wire connecting the NSS to the starter relay.
Bad NSS despite having continuity?

Did you do the wiggle test while trying to crank? (Checks linkage.)  :scratchchin:

I have run across instances where a circuit will ring true with a meter (only a few milliamps load) but won't carry a heavier load. Try hooking a 12v light bulb to the brown wire and see if the bulb will illuminate brightly using the brown wire and NSS as the ground source.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Somehow I broke a pin off the switch when removing the plug. I installed a new switch, same problem. Car starts with a ground wire to the starter relay. Wiring has continuity. I'm confused.

I have had several "New Part" fails out of the box.  :coolgleamA:

What about test the NSS straight at plug but out of the transmission? Grounding the center contact of NSS. That will discard switch itself, and points out to the roostercomb/lever inside the transmission
