I'm not very good at body work but I'm trying. I've been promised my charger back from the bodyshop by next weekend. it's coming home in parts and i will finish it in my yard.
so i figured I'd practice on the scoop of my satellite. all the fiberglass that moulded it to the hood had cracked over the years. i did all the work myself but my friend that is a professional body guy sat around drank beer and gave me tips on how to do things better.
i grinded out all the old fiberglass, there was a little rust underneath. so it was good that i grinded it all out. i used bondo, no fiberglass,  then iceing, then red putty. i didn't get a pic of it after the read putty. i was to excited to grab the camera.
i primed it and sprayed it , satan black. it came out real good. i then covered the car after it dried and then it rained and rained.  when i took the cover off,   :scared:
the rain messed it all up. so today i wet sanded it again and re sprayed it. I'm very happy the way it came out. getting real excited to have the r/t back and attack that.  Rene

you did a good jobm but beware that fiberglass bonded to metal will never last....... it will crack eventually. But good job none the less.

I installed a fiberglass scoop into mine but used a different method. I cut the opening exact ti the scoop and then slipped it between the outer sheet metal and inner steel hood supports. I clamped it into place and used Dura-bond panel adhesive. (same thing they use for door panels and fenders)  I also installed a steel mesh in the front intakes. I cut the mesh and installed self tapping screws forward into the hollows surrounding the intakes. (they were filled with tiger hair) I put a 90 degree bend into the mesh right where it meets the internal structure of the hood and bolted it through there as well. It is now a part of the hood structure and keeps the front from lifting with the wind.

I used a flexable filler around the edges where the metal & glass meet. It may or may not eventually crack but the scoop has been there 4 yrs now in primer but just painted it a week ago. been driving it without incident so far. Yours turned out very nice. I had the same problem with the rain when I did mine. it started to sprinkle right when I finished my last clear coat.  :icon_smile_angry: Lucky for me it color sanded out.

Feels good when you make something look better doesn't it. That's the very reason that I restore cars. It's so cool to take something that looks bad and change it completely. Keep up the good work. Hope you get that other house sold so that you can build that dream shop. You won't have to worry about the rain then. ;D
