Thoughts on exhaust tips

Finally getting around to putting the 1971 Super Bee out on the road again.  Transmission now good, cooling good, intermittent no-start fixed, new battery.

So it is time to do a complete exhaust replacement.  It currently has glass packs, generic chrome exhaust tips.  It is the same exhaust I got when I purchased the car in 1997.  The exhaust got to the point where it was leaking and now, the only thing holding the driver's side to the down pipe is wire!  I am going to have it towed to my favorite exhaust guy, who is just outstanding, and replace everything.

Planning on NOT going the header route, keeping the original manifolds, and still thinking of the mufflers to use.  But before I do anything, I have to get the exhaust tip considerations out of the way.

The car is an N41/N42 car.  Originally a 383, now a 440-4.  Exhaust cutouts in the body, naturally.  I want to go with what would appear to be "proper", that is, the "machine gun" exhaust tips.

Problem is, which ones?  There are red/orange inserts, and black.  Which came on this car originally?  I have seen rebuilds with either.  I know the later Mopars and especially the GTXs seemed to favor the orange.  When was orange used, and when was black used?

Classic industries have a bunch of choices.  Red/orange inserts, black, short tips, long tips, hanger, no hanger, etc. 2 1/4", 2 1/2", 3".....which variables are correct? I THINK I remember the short ones were when you had a later model with resonators, and the short ones went on right behind those.  But I am still not sure.

Any absolute answers?

I kind of like the idea of orange ones, as my preposterous original color scheme of white car, black stripes, green vinyl top and green interior could only be more bizarre with orange tips.  BUT, I don't want to go that way if not stock....

Here's a dead ringer for my car, if you happen to squint and stand 40 feet away that is.

It appears to have the long style, orange tips.

I would still appreciate input and opinions.
