Hi all does anyone know what these numbers mean on my 70 Charger 383 ?

I assume the "70" in the 2nd pic means built in 1970 ?

Anyway to tell if it's the original engine ? As far as
I can tell none of those numbers match with the vin on my car

Many thanks for any help

15 years on here and you've never read a thread about the VIN # being stamped on the passengers side oil rail pad?

Those casting dates are well into the '70 production year, so if you have a late scheduled production date on your car it could be the original engine.

Engine build date stamp is on the pad below the distributor.

VIN # is stamped on the passenger side pad just above the pan.. basically in line with the engine mount.

Thanks for the reply, I checked the numbers and the vin is the same on the block so it's the original engine

I checked the transmission and can't find the vin on that though, I know it's supposed to be a pad on the passenger side but can't find that at all, could it be a warranty transmission maybe ?

Thanks

Front right, up high, on the bell housing area.

Yep, the passenger side bell if it has an automatic transmission.

Passenger side of the gear box if it has a manual transmission.

Thanks couldn't really find the vin anywhere though on the bellhousing as the exhausts are kind of in the way

Only this

No raised flat pad on it?

If so, it could be 1968 model year or older.

Check the pan rail on the driver's side for part number and date code info too.

Find the stamped part number on the drivers side pan rail below the shift lever. Post it here.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Hard to see but these are the numbers if I'm reading it correctly

STAMPED number, not raised casting numbers.
