I finally got around to installing the set of wheel lip molding I bought off E-Bay. I thought the info would be helpful to those of you who are thinking about buying them.

They are not a direct easy fit by a long shot. The holes did not line up and had to be redrilled one at a time. I clamped them to help hold them in place but had to tweak (force) them in some spots. I would say they were worth the $315.00 I spent on them compaired to what a NOS set runs now days. I think the car looks much better with them, what do ya think?

I sure do appreciate you let us know how they fit. I`ve been wanting to order a set or two, but wanted to hear some real world feeback about
them first.  They do look good in your pics.  Are these the ones sold by Metro in Georgia? I am hoping they will be at the Southern Mopar Nats next weekend, so i can pick up a set and save on shipping.   I have read before that there is  more than one correct
hole arrangement. That is why Laysons sells their versions of them both with and  w/o holes drilled.  did you re-drill the mouldings or drill new holes in the car?

seeing that NOS sets were fetching close to a grand a couple of years ago, prior to any repro`s being available, $315 is chump change. used and abused sets were fetching $200-$300.  :Twocents:

Twilt,
Here is a link to one of his auctions:

I'm sure its Metro parts because thats what it said on the bag of screws. The parts were packaged well and came with the screws. I got my set for $315.00 with free shipping. I'm sure if you e-mailed him he would do the same thing.

Siver R/T,
I hear ya but compaired to what they were for NOS it was a steal. I've been looking for a set for several years.

Judhudson,
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it!

i had a hard time finding a set for my '69 too, it was the last piece of my project and i finally found a set on e-bay for $50 bucks each,..
when they arrived they were tweaked and the holes didnt line up 'n there was turquise paint overspray on em', i had to tweak em to fit and redrill the holes,... i think, you have to be really carfull with them cause some may be unusable if they are dented too bad..and fitting them can damage the paint too...
your car looks mighty fine there, they sure make a car look finished...

Charger looks great with those on there. been thinking about buying some myself off of there. Thanks for the pictures to give an idea as to what they would look like on my car.

Nacho-RT74

just a question... is an original 440+6 72 Rallye with RamHood ? ( N96 code )
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

Nacho-RT74,
Yes, the car is a factory original 440 4 speed N96 Ram Charger car. It also has a factory original Dana 60 rear end. The 6 pack is not original, I added it when the motor was rebuilt last year. I'll have to get a picture of the motor and post it.

Now if I could just get rid of those goofey 440+6 stickers off the darn fenders! :rotz:(They've been there sense I bought the car)

1972Rallye

Excellent info on the wheel lip mouldings and great pics!  I love the 71 centers with the '70 polished trim rings... Awesome car!

I have a question as well... Was your car coded for the bright tips (N42)?  My 72 wasn't and I've seen that N42 was not available on 440 4speed cars (regardless of emissions).

BMC440

Great pictures for comparison. Yes the wheel lip mouldings add beauty to an already beautiful car.

gasoline... if decals are not dry because the sun... gasoline or somekind of similar nafta will  melt the glue.

The problem will be that PROBABLY ( even not necessarilly ) will keep somekind of shadows where decals area because the sun normal discoloration on rest of fender.

About moldings THEY LOOK GREEEEEEEAT

but I know now that I won't buy those repro ones if I need unless is my last solution... I hate when that happens.

Thanks for all the great comments on the car everyone!

72Rallye,
The N42 brite tips are not stock to the car but I like them. There are a lot of things on the car that are not correct. For example: 6 pack, go wing, rear valance with cut outs, exhaust tips, wheels, and several others. I'm a firm believer in adding to your car what you like. I just make sure its always things I can easily change back if I need to. If I had my way about it the car would be black and it still may end up that way!

72Rallye440

I took a pic of the motor so everyone can see. Its usually not this dirty but here ya go!

I'm starting another post with a couple pics of my poor R/T hiding in the garage if you are interested in looking!

Goldfinger71

Looks way better with the moldings.. Well worth the time and money!
I am a fan of nice and clean look but I love these moldings!

72Rallye440

Goldfinger71,
You had to go and bring up the CenterLines :'( :'(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (just kidding)

I had those on a 73 SE when I was in high school then switched them to the Rallye when I got it. I still miss the look and I'm not completely settled with the rallyes. But all the great comments about them has helped ease the pain a little. I sold the wheels mainly due to the fact that the back spacing was off on the Rallye because of the Dana60 and they rubbed the quarter panels.
