My 1969 Charger

First post and wanted to introduce my 1969 Dodge Charger.  We bought it new off the dealers lot in July 1969 and used it as a family car for a number of years.  When I went to trade it in, no one would give me much for it so I placed it in protected indoor storage.  About 20 years ago we brought it back out of storage, cleaned it up, gave it one spray of original F3 paint and down the road we went.  The Charger is a number matching 383, PB, PS, factory air car with vinyl top.  Glass is correct with pentagram logo, original chrome and vinyl top, date coded wires, absolutely no rust anywhere.  I did replace the seat covers and carpet with OEM.  This next winter will be a project to pull the engine and rebuild it (freshen it up) along with the automatic transmission and rear end.

Thanks for accepting my membership in this forum.  I will obviously get a great deal of usable information from the discussions.

Thanks.  Forgot to mention that the Charger has stainless steel exhaust and Mag 500 wheels.  Kept the numbered steel wheels and original wheel covers.  Automation is not my expertise area and I've tried to send pictures three times, but keep getting the message that the file is too big.  Any suggestions, I must be doing something wrong.

Welcome to the group   :2thumbs:

As for pictures they have to be smaller than 400kb
Another tip if you have tried to load a picture and it did not work and you make it smaller to try again you will need to change the name on the picture or it still won't load it as it thinks you already did
Good luck

Welcome, I often find it it's easiest to put the picture on the screen and then use the snipping tool or screen capture to make a file that's small enough. I also find that I have to name it uniquely so I just use the date plus some random letters

I like the story you told about the car, mine was bought in February 1970 and would have been sold in the mid-70s, but the dealer gave a little figure when my mom took it in period so they kept it.

My dad let me buy it in the 1980s when I was old enough to drive

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Would anyone happen to know what a Charger is worth in this condition and being a number matching one owner.  I obviously have it insured, but kind of wanted to know your experience.  Hemmings has some figures and Barrett Jackson and Mecum have sold some, but they are mostly modified on one hand or museum pieces (rotisserie restorations) which this is not.  Thanks in advance.

I couldn't begin to guess on a value - but with the one-owner status (which only happens once) and the overall condition, in this market, maybe 45-55k?  What size are the wheels and tires, 15x7 all around?  Great looking car and keep that insurance updated!

It's a great Car you have there !
That said,
I feel the kindred spirit of your frustration when it comes to trying value the Un-restored Originals ?.....  because our Black '69 R/T SE is similarly original Un-restored/Un-rebuilt, same-same condition and also unmolested still sporting it's original Exhaust System......  meaning, trying to find 'comparables' that have SOLD with which to compare pricing is basically impossible because there aren't any ?
Your being 'one owner' is certainly a plus.... much shorter provenance than ours although I am in contact with the original owner of ours.

IMO, there are worth whatever someone is willing to Pay at a given point in time ?
NOT much help I know....
but with the survivors it's a crap shoot in my experience, as they only garner higher demand/appeal monetarily it seems to somewhat of a "purist" type collector ? and as the generation who were most enamored with the 2nd Gens ages and dwindles, so too.... again imo, does the "purist"/Collector segment contained within that aging group.

Color can make an astonishing difference at Sale as you know ?
IMO, $45-$50K is a good base assumption....... more money requires Purist/Collector pressure = unknown until market tested.
