Outside Door button color

Hey guys just curious, what is the go with the colour of the outside door button(push in to open the door), ive seen chargers with the i assume original style black button, and others with full chrome silver.

My 68 has full chrome silver, while other 68s ive seen have black.

all 68 chargers had black buttons originally ,

also early  1969 chargers that was built late 1968 had black too,
i have lost a lot of SPD info regarding at roughly what SPD  69 chargers  seemed to change from black to silver & at what assembly plant , was sometime in january if i remember & or  possibly when the current  stock of black buttons run out   but all 68 chargers had Black

Out of curiosity, is your 68 an early production car?  The consensus has always been black buttons on a 68, however mine has the chrome buttons as well.  It's an earlier production model (Sept '67 build) and has all the quirky early 68 details.  I've wondered about the chrome buttons as well and have never heard if that was a confirmed early '68 detail.

The chrome buttons may be more prevalent now because of the availability of all chrome door handles (w/chrome buttons) for the restorations being done in the 90s.  When somebody did a car then, they usually used the nice new re-pops instead of the their original equipment (w/the black buttons).

Those handles also continued to be used on Mopar trucks & vans long after the muscle era.  That's where many restored cars have gotten theirs.
