I still have not figured why you cannot afford insurance on a car worth $60k or more! ???

since he never drove it, and it was garaged you would pay a couple of hundred dollars per year to insure it!!

heck, that wrecks my day. poor old man, poor car.

Insurance is a funny thing...alll my cars are insured, and yet my drum kit and musical equipment worth about $18000 isnt. I have been meaning to sort it out for ages, now I'm no fool, but I have procrastinated.....It could so easily be someone like me scratching my head and saying..how could this happen to me?
Hmmm better go...got an insurance man to call...

IF you do not insure something like that... well you should just set 60,000 in cash on fire  :rotz:

A real eye opener for all of us "do it yourself" type of guys. I keep two big fire extinguishers ready for the "in-case" situation and insurance for the mishaps when you are not around. Sure sad story but it's fixable. He did'nt loose his life and end up scarred up for life (well maybe emotionally he did).

I know when I grind something or weld something in the garage, I'm always worried that I'm going to wake up in the middle of the night with a fire in my hands - I thank God that he's been watching over me and my family! :yesnod:

i gotta go clean my woodshop, which is the other half of my garage where i put my 69.  i fear this every day as well.
i feel for him insurance or not.

Got my music gear insured now....funny how a story like that gives you a wake up call!
I keep a lot of it in the garage next to the car....and the canisters of petrol....and the other flammable things...(And my drums are made of American Rock Maple....now wouldn't that just burn great?
I don have fire extinguishers tho...

I feel really sorry for the guy..Hell if I'd cherished a Hemi for 30 years I would feel eviscerated if it caught fire...

Eventhough he didn't have automobile insurance on the car, wouldn't homeowner's content coverage cover this?

Probably is not a "home" garage. Looks like an industrial garage type. Some homeowners insurance stipulate no property coverage if burning torches, open flame heaters, combustible gas tanks and flamable products are stored or found in the home. In other words, they don't want to cover fires caused by you running a part time business repairing automobiles or a hobby that has a high risk of fire such as welding up sculptures, etc...

Home owner's insurance doesn't cover cars. Some policies will cover car parts if there is no car for them be installed in or on.

Well, least he is going to restore it, not just toss it out. Of what you can see in the pic, it doesn't really look to bad.

Due to the fact that the seat back and dash didn't burn, the car should be salvageable.

You know what - I feel for the guy I really do, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.................but...

maybe I'm becoming jaded because I'm trying to finish my 69 to pretty high standards and have been running inot a lot of guys with junk and "project" cars in their garages, yards (some front yards) and driveways that somehow feel their "projects" are worth a ton of dough because B-J just sold a charger last weekend for $200,000... (I actually had a guy tell me his rusted engineless charger was a vegas car and worth a fortune..to which I replied "I've got news for you, keeping your car outside and uncovered for the last 12 Canadian winters means ITS NOT A VEGAS CAR ANYMORE).
Anyway, I'm tired of guys asking exorbinant amounts for their junk and/or somehow thinking that their classic cars are going to magically restore themselves some day. or that every day that an unprotected car gets left outdoors it doesn't rust or deteriorate it gets more valuable!!!

I know that this doesn't entirely apply to this guy  but WHY would you have a car like, get offered SIX FIGURES (US I'm assuming) while you're on a pension and turn it down. Greed is a terrible thing and sure enough fate has a way of coming back to bite you in the arse if you don't respect it.

I really do hope this guy can bring her back and/or puts that car in the hands of someone who cares more about the car than just what its gonna be worth next week.

just my two cents

This group is great, thanks to all that got me wondering about my own insurance coverage so I called my agent to confirm what I had. He said the homeowners coverage even with the umbrella did not cover cars in the garage.

:iagree: Looks like it's mostly smoke & water damage from that pic. Look at the '40 Ford in the back, it looks like it's just got soot on it.
I'm sure the paint isn't much to brag about anymore, but it doesn't look as bad as the usual garage fire pics we see.

I still feel sorry for the guy. :'(

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)
