Last summer I picked up a 68 Charger and a 383 engine came with it
Was not trying to say it was from the 68 Charger

Trying to figure out what the motor might be

As far as I can tell it is a E 383 2 6 so does that make it a 1969 motor built on Feb 6 ?

There is a VIN on the side of the block  9B339405

How do you tell what kind of car it came out of ?

Guy was trying to say motor came from a Charger but after other stuff he told me did not work out so well  :brickwall:

Read someplace that 1969 383 were HP motors if they were in a Charger even though they were not stamped on the pad by the distributor

A 69 Charger with four speed and no A/C got the 335 horse HP.
A 69 Charger with an automatic or A/C got the 330 horse assembly.

B = Hamtramck plant, which built Chargers, Darts and Barracudas. With that VIN, it's likely it came from a Charger.

So if it was a Charger would the VIN have been XP29G9B339405 ?
Built after Feb 6 ?

Could you get a 383 in an R/T ?

No 383 in an R/T. 440 or Hemi only.

So the only possible Charger VIN this motor could have come from would have been XP29G9B339405

It has a 4 bbl on it with no carb so does that make it H ?

Bronzedodge

Maybe.  If it is a factory cast iron intake with a date code in the ballpark for the engine.
Mopar forever!
