Yep, sounds like his parents had a little insight when they named him "Dick" or "Richard Head" if you prefer......................

 Well said Doug !

I guess Dandy Dick is getting a little crusty in his old age....or oldtimers disease is setting in  :D

It was great to see this car in person and I'm glad I went back to the show on Sunday! I can't wait to hear the rest of the story. I'll post some of my pictures later on as soon as I get everything unpacked.

I don't know how in the world I missed this posting way back when it got started.. I just read it today and I am ,(for lack of a better expression), pissing my pants!!!!  I take it DICK was a DICK!! I would not worry too much about him.. You have other avenues to take to prove it's worth. The old owners to start with. You can also track down who used/bought what parts from things like the tranny shop sticker on the side window.   Hey brother, I am a bored handicap with nothing better to do. I would love to help.  There are numbers guys on here that are top notch and I would bet that the magazines will still want to do your story. They can help tremendously..

Maybe 30 years is too much for Dick.. I don't know what was said, but I bet he's talking about it with his people now.. Maybe things will change.. You know they had contracts with many and tons of pictures of each race car. Also who knows who will be reading these pages and looking for more info. Maybe they will realize this IS A DICK LANDY RACE CAR.. Like I said, the magazines will help to get him more motivated as well..

DICK (head) is most likely wanting someone to PAD is pocket to provide authentication of the car.  WHATTA PUTZ.  Sorry, that just ticks me off.

BEST OF LUCK with your car and I am sure it is the real thing.  I LOVE THE CAR AND THOSE PICS...... and story.

I don't get it, why wouldn't Dick want to admit the possibility of this being his old car? Especially when it's so obvious that this car stands at least an 80% chance of being the real deal?
It's like he is ashamed of his history or something. :rotz: Wierd.

Did any magazine guys come check it out?

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I have a few friends who happen to transport High-$$$$$$ rides for the rich & famous. 1 of them was telling me that lots of old race cars have been changing hands lately. And it seems that some sellers have been having to give "kickbacks" to the original owners/drivers, so they would come forward and verify that the car/bike etc is the real deal, and that is regardless of any documentation.  :rotz:

That being said, I got this as second hand information. But it does give you something to think about.  :shruggy: :ahum: :stirthepot: :image_294343: :icon_smile_shock: :slap: :popcrn:

I figured that would happen, see my earlier post in this same thread...

That car is simply amazing.  I'd love to own it as a piece of history, however I'm more than a bit disappointed Landy was being so wishy-washy regarding it's authentication.  You'd have to be blind to mistake that for something other than one of his cars, especially with the names on the c-pillar and doors.

Good luck with it!

I'm glad I didn't go through with painting my car in his color scheme, only because of his attitude.

as far as Landy, did anyone actually see him acting this way? So far all I;ve seen is second-third person reports. And maybe after the problems there were with the first guy claiming to have Landy's '65, maybe he's leary of jumping right on this one. :Twocents:

all i posted on moparts was what i heard coming out of the owners mouth to another guy that was wearing a barton tee shirt and looking the car over real close...

Troy

Actually, I was part of one of those conversations which abodyjoe may have overheard but I don't tend to jump to conclusions. Let's try to withold judgement until the whole story is out.

Thanks,

I have a feeling you are going to get a phone call real soon from Dick Landy.  Are you still meeting with the people from MCG and Mopar Muscle?  Keep them involved.

Keep us updated with new info, because from reading this post you have a whole bunch of people connected to a whole bunch of other people.  That is the best way to find out information.

Thanks

Okay, I think some of us are being a little hard on Dick. He has been a little difficult to work with, and didn't seem very anxious to help me, but as I've stated before, he probably has good reason for this. He said many people have contacted him and claimed to have old Dick Landy cars. Most of them were bogus and he's apparently the victim of many attempted scams. I guess we should actually thank him for weeding out the phonies. At this point, I'll be more appreciative of the authentication if I get it. If Dick weren't so strict and apprehensive, there would probably be a lot more "Landy" cars out there than were ever actually made. He's very busy and in demand and I'm grateful that he finally took the time to look my car over. He won't say for sure if the car was his until he compares the information and observations to the records he has back at his shop. His wife said he has very detailed information on file for every car he ever had. Of course he expects to be compensated for this service, but why shouldn't he be? I wouldn't expect him to do anything for me for nothing. I'm positive, also, that he would never take the money and do the authentication unless he was certain the car was genuine. I did have to follow him around most of the weekend and I was very persistant while trying not to be a pest. I apologized to him and his wife for this, and reminded him that he's the only one in the whole world that can do this for me. I assured him that I wouldn't have been so persistent unless I was sure that my car was genuine. It was Saturday afternoon before Dick finally checked out the car. At one point during the inspection, he kinda told me to shut up and go away, so I did. In the end, all's well that end's well. About the only positive thing he said was "It looks like my car." This was after he completed his inspection and was all I needed to hear. At this point, I'm very optimistic. It was a stressful weekend and after Dick finished, I just wanted to go home. I stayed anyway and put the car out for a while on Sunday becuase I said I would. I didn't feel my car deserved to be on display with all those beautifully restored cars that these people worked so hard on. I had done hardly anything to my car other than clean it up. I thought it was important that I kept it as original as possible and not give anyone the impression that I was trying to fake anything. In the end, I was really really glad that I put the car out. It did attract a fair amount of attention. I met some great people and got lots of positive comments and encouragement. Troy, it was great to meet you and I appreciate your help and advice. I hope everyone at DodgeCharger.com appreciates your time and devotion. When talking with the Carlisle crowd about the car, I was trying very hard not to refer to the car as a Dick Landy car becuase I didn't want Dick to get the impression that I was jumping the gun. Along that same line, Randy Bolig, of Mopar Muscle, agreed not to publish his pictures or story until we heard back from Dick Landy. Sorry to have rambled on for so long. Again, thanks to everyone at DodgeCharger.com for all the help, advice, and encouragement. Thanks to everyone at Carlisle that stopped to talk and check out the car. I'm so glad I stayed and put it out. Thanks, Daryl Klassen, for your comments and advice. Your '68 Hemi Dart is awesome. Everyone on the Carlisle staff that I came in contact with was as helpful as could be. It was a great and organized show.

Got my fingers crossed, Ron.

Nice pics Troy!

That's neat...the staggered leaf spring hangers to make room for a wider tire without lots of relocation work.

Sites,

So how bad is that front end damage? Did Dick give you any estimation on when he would get back to you?

Mikesmopars01

Those pictures are great.  Thanks Troy.

Did Dick Landy say anything about wanting it back if it is his car?

Coincedently thats not the first time a Dick Landy car appeared at Carlisle. Then got photographed for a Magazine Article while there. If you look in the JUNE/JULY 1993 Mopar Muscle You'll see they did a Interesting Article on another Dick Landy car that appeared at Carlisle, His 1968 Super Stock Hemi Dart. Dick being in Attendance Is Photographed with the car for the article while at Carlisle. Interesting Article if you have not seen/read it. LEON. :yesnod: :icon_smile_big: :o

Very cool.   Congrats.

The offset hangers allow full use of the wheel well without having the tires hit the springs.     I've done it to my car also... it was just 30 years later that I went about trying to get somebody to reinvent the wheel for me - Doctor Diff is the man!

I read in one of these posts about either cleaning up or replacing the Cragars.   Please get these old ones rechromed rather than get new ones if at all possible as the new ones are all unilug design - you've got vintage 4.5" bolt circle wheels there.    Those fronts are very unique vintage pieces with that strange offset.

We never had any contact with MCG. Randy Bolig, of Mopar Muscle, took pictures of the car at Carlisle. He's agreed not to publish anything until we've heard back from Dick.

Sites,

So how bad is that front end damage? Did Dick give you any estimation on when he would get back to you?

A friend towed the car for me many years ago. He clamped a tow bar onto the bumper, which we didn't realize at the time, was acid-dipped. He didn't use safety chains. When he pulled out into traffic a little too hard, the bumper ripped and the tow bar came off. The car rolled down a slight hill and hit a small tree. There's about a 3 inch impression in the bumper and the bracket behind the bumper is bent. The hood was also damaged, but I wasn't too concerned about that because the previous owner had already cracked the hood back by one of the hinges. I have a new bumper and brackets but they'll need to be acid-dipped. The grille and headlight door assembly had been removed so it wasn't damaged.

Dick didn't say how long I should expect to wait, but some others who are familiar with the process told me to expect about 2 weeks.

What happens if Dick says it's the real deal? Are you still selling?

Cool car, and I think it's the real deal.

thanks for the updates. Have any pics of the engine? Do you know when the last time it ran? Any pics of landy with the car?

If you are selling, I think the whole board should get together and buy it, and we can keep it at my house.

It would be all of ours of course.

What do you guys think?? :yesnod:

sounds luike the deal the wife made when "we" bought the house. It's ours, but "I" make the payments, and it's "her house" when it comes time to decorate, but "mine" when something needsa fixed.
