Hi,
I hoped somebody could give me some advice on a problem that is driving me mad. All of a sudden after driving at around 50-70mph for 30-40 minutes the engine started to skip and run uneven,- hesitating, stalling, stumbling and with strong deadspots during acceleration. I just fired her up again and it appears even worse. From "outside" everything appears ok,- vacuum cables etc.

I have a 69'charger with a Holley six pack set-up.

any advice on "quick fixes" that i can try before handing it over to a pro?

the first thing i would check would be the carbs and see if they are wet in the throats after it has been idling. if so then you might have a piece of crap in the needle and seat of one of them which would cause it not to run correctly.

I had a similar problem with my truck ('73 390ci). I was driving down the interstate and the engine would start to stumble, and lose power. Most of the time it occurred when I would try to pass another vehicle. The stumbling would also occur at lower speeds as well.

I solved the problem by replacing the fuel filter as the previous filter was restricting fuel flow.

Just my 2 cents on a possible quick and easy fix.

For some reason... the rear carb has a tendency to get gummed up more than the other 2.    I'm not gonna go back into my halfazz theories as to why... it just does.   While mine is a mechanical 4782/83 setup,  I've heard stories about the back carb on vacuum 6 paks going back to when the cars were new - up to an including removing the fuel lines and linkage from the rear carb back in the day.

I've changed my fuel lines and am trying to get a fuel log built up here shortly.

Change your fuel filter(s) if you haven't in awhile and then take it out and beat the snot out of it  :icon_smile_cool:
