I just fired up my 383 with newly refurbished 1969 Holley 4bbl carb(4160), and I didn't see any adjustment procedures or even that the carb exists in the 1969 FSM.
Any one know where I may find info on this carb as pertains to Chrysler engines?
Like was there some supplement to the 1969 Charger/Coronet FSM, that included the Holley 4Bbl?
Thanks

The carb, has list 4440 (PN 38/ 570CFM) If that helps.

Well I bought the carb, from a guy who bought out a huge carb remanufacturing  business, and it was fully rebuilt and he said should be almost perfectly set up.
(besides the box being dusty, carb looked BRAND new!!!!! and the build date is only 19 days off m)y original one!!!!

SO I started the car yesterday, and it idled a bit high, but I let her warm up a few, I thought once she warmed up, I could crack the throttle, and she would come off high idle.
I hit the throttle, and she came down, but still idled high, so I started to back the idle screw off, and I only did maybe 3/4 a turn, and I could see the throttle lever was not even touching the screw, and I could not manually pull the lever forward anymore (to reduce the high idle), so I looked around the carb, and not finding any more adjustments, I figured I would just check the factory service manual.
And the FSM did not have any info on that carb at all.

Just now while typing, it dawned on me I never checked the throttle cable or trans kick down  to see if that was binding and holding it from going all the way forward.

But besides the high idle, she sounded GREAT!!, No stumble, or hesitation,no leaks!
I crack the throttle and she is right there, sounds so good!!!!!!
Besides two months ago when i fired her up to see if the 383 was gonna come back from the dead, the engine has not run since 198something.
Now I cant wait to just give her a small test drive!!!!!

I just figured I would read up on the carb in the FSM, but is wasnt there.

I didn't think the 383 got a Holley until '70?

Bad B-rad

Nope 1969.
I think 1969-1972

It may be the 4160 Holley(570CFM) on the 383 in 1969, is the same one use in 1967 on some 440's.
I also think it was and A/C thing, or an "H" code thing, but I don't know for sure.

Bad B-rad

I can not really find any info on why they used both 4Bbl carbs?
I think all  Magnum/Super Commando/Roadrunner Motors had the Carter, and the regular "H" code 4Bbl got Holley Carbs.
I used to think it was something to do with having A/C or not, but I have found pics of A/C cars with Carters.

I would love to know the reason, why Chrysler used both brands for 4Bbl carbs on their cars.

I am a big fan of the Carter/Edelbrock AVS carbs, just my personal preference.

That 4160 should adjust like any other vacuum secondary holley carb.  :yesnod:

Can you post up a pic of your linkage/throttle cable setup ? It sounds like there is something amiss with the adjustment.

Does this carb have the throttle adapter that is Mopar specific ? Without that adapter you cannot adjust the throttle cable properly.

I have a hard time posting photos here, but I can take them. And email them to you, thanks for the help!!

The carb has the correct Mopar throttle stud, and linkage, it is the exact same carb, that came off the engine from the factory.(list 4440)
I just bought this one, instead of rebuilding the original one, because the original throttle plates had some pitting on them, and I didn't know if I would be able to find them.
Also the price was great on the carb, and its only 19 days older then the carb that it was born with.

The two things I have not checked out was the cable, two tight, not letting the throttle lever go forward enough, or maybe Vacuum leak from a plug that maybe fell off.
I will try to check those things today.

I just never even thought to check those things.
Sometimes the ez things get overlooked because I figured they are good!!!

And the thing fired up and sounded GREAT!!!
I got so excited, plus I had to open the shop door and turn the fan on, as the new paint was burrning off!!

Bad B-rad

Well no throttle bind, and no vacuum leaks.
I used a new carb to intake gasket, and torqued to spec.
I thought maybe a cap fell off, but nope, unless the small vacuum line from the carbs vac port to the choke diaphragm is leaking, there seams to be no vacuum leaks.

I have yet to get time to look at it more then that.

But as soon as I do, I cant wait to start her up again!!!!!!!

Is your car an A/C car Brad?
My 69 has a factory Holley.  I ran into a problem years ago with a whistling sound, high pitched vacuum leak it turned out to be.  The carb main body was .005" out at the base of the main body to the throttle body, and a bit off at the metering block surface as well.  After a full warm up in the summer, it wouldn't seal.  A large flat file and a straightedge cured the problem.

Check original Holley carbs carefully.   :Twocents:
Mopar forever!

Bad B-rad

Yes its an A/C car., and I never checked the screws that held the two tight.
I dont hear a whisle, but I am half deaf, and the car is idleing around 1000-1200rpm.

I hope to check it out today.
Thanks for the tip, maybe some soapy water will show any vacuum leak around that area.
