What radiator do you have in your car?

I am looking to install a new A/C system in the car and will need a different radiator. I have a 440 but used a later water pump housing with the lower hose on the right side, upper hose on the left. The OEM position of the A/C pump will be on the left so I need a radiator for a stock B/RB engine. I want a 26" aluminum one. Several are available in a wide range of prices. I want to use a factory shroud and a belt driven fan. Griffin makes a nice looking unit but the damn thing is over $700. Speed Cooling has some happy customers but they are so inexpensive, I am wary that it would last....

I'm glad for you. I just wonder why some are so inexpensive while others are big money! Have you ever priced a reproduction from Glen Ray ? Holy crap...$1200 for a radiator? Really ??

The 1st rad I got was a 4 row Champion, it did not keep my car cool, it gets very hot here in Southeast Tx, ECP & 18" 7 blade flex a lite mech blade, with AC & it runs cool.

I'll elaborate on what cdr said.  A radiator is just a heat exchanger.  In a four row, the tubes are sometimes smaller to fit in the depth. front to back.  You can have a situation where the last row, closest to the fan, has no difference in temperature to the surrounding air; the air enteringthat row already warmed by the first three.

You want a three row.  As far as cost, the price of copper has risen significantly in the past several years, that is one of the reasons a brass/copper radiator is so expensive.  The aluminum ones, I dunno.  Maybe the robot TIG welders got a new contract.    :smilielol:   You get what you pay for in this world, usually.  Overseas ones are cheap, U.S. made will be more.   :Twocents:

I measured my car and bought a "universal" one from Summit.   Works great and only cost around $200 (several years ago).  I don't remember the name brand, I will try to look today.

Hey there Johnny...
I see several companies that sell units with 2 rows of 1 inch wide tubes, Griffin has the $800+ one that uses 2 rows of 1.25" tubes. I have heard from some that suggest "Speed Cooling" so I may call them tomorrow. Thanks, guys.   :2thumbs:

All my Chargers have the ECP 2 row radiators that have 1" tubes.....all my overheat problems were solved, even the Daytona runs a constant 180* now

Price was right around $225 with shipping to my door

What is ECP? Maybe I'll google them...

Engineered Cooling Products

I got all of mine through them on eBay

I have several friends with the eastwood. Love them, run ice cold. Only thing with them is how they measure. If you want a 26" radiator, order their 28. Direct fit, and cheap.

I am running a Be Cool brand radiator I got from Summit or Jegs. Looking back I am pretty sure I overpaid for it as it was made for a B Body Mopar but looks just like the Summit Brand ones or any other Aluminum one.

Works very well but I have not fully tested it yet with A/C.

Nacho-RT74

stock, with stock system and HD Imperial ( stock replacement ) fan clutch... working great.

Engine is stroked and still works great.

temp gauge plays between half and 3/4 of the scale as far I recall... ( 5 years since the last start up )
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

Used C body 3 throw. Cheap and effective.

I didn't like looking at an aluminum radiator through my '68 grille, so I went with an stock black OER 3 row.  Maintains 180 degrees all day.
