Do mount mounts get brittle with age?

Yeah. Probably a dumb question but I would think that besides wearing out would the rubber dry out making them more brittle and subject to breaking, at least the drivers side.
Mine look pretty haggard even with the supposed low mileage so I was thinking of replacing them before dropping the motor back in.
Who makes a decent set? The $3.00 Rock Auto ones make me nervous. Plan on doing the reinforcement mod for the drivers side too.

You can buy the type that have interlocking metal pieces inside the pad (mount). But if you go with the regular style I suggest you do the two-bolt modification on the left mount.
FWIW A few years ago I bought a new pair of mounts (brackets and pads), the brand was Anchor which is made in China. I didn't do the mod. and within a month the left pad let go. This was in a B-body with a small block no less. Ticked me off!
So I through bolted a good used one I had, then installed and it's still holding strong. After what happened with the Anchor pad, I bought a pair of pads for another car and they were made in India. The metal on them was thicker than the Anchor brand. Who would have thought?

That is my concern with buying a new set thru NAPA or A/Z. but there seems to be no in between. I really don't want to pay the $ 120.00 bend me over price for a Year One set.

I am only aware of cheap and expensive mounts. Never seen any in between ones as far as cost goes.

You can buy cheap and do this: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,13216.0.html

FWIW I don't remember the Brand name on the one's made in India but I did buy them from a "Parts Plus" parts place. And like I said they appeared to be a better mount than the Anchor brand. But I still did the two-bolt modification on the left mount before installing into the car.

I got tired of breaking factory mounts and keeping the left side chained down back around 1980 and did something about it for good!  :yesnod:

Thats what i did... solids and never looked back. I broke the bolt through style with the 4 speed. I see no more vibration running solids then i did prior.
