If two Chargers side by side for sale that were the same in every detail except one had been completely covered inside with Dynamat ( or something similar)

Would you pay more for the covered car or less and how much ?

Yes I know the benefit of the heat , sound proofing but are you always going to wonder what is under it ?
Any rust hiding ?

Anybody have a car with this stuff in it for 10-15 years ?
Any issues popping up ?

When this stuff is put onto a car floor is it pushed right down into all the molded grooves ?
If not will there be any condensation trapped in these places just waiting to rust ?


I am almost done putting a new trunk floor in my car and trying to decide my next move
I have never been a big fan of the factory trunk mat as they always seem slide around some and end up with big wrinkles here and there
Do I really need to spend all the time to clean up all the welds to be perfect before it gets painted just to end up sticking sound proofing all over it never to be seen again  ?
(have pictures to show it does have a new floor if and when I were to sell this one)


Has anyone bought a car with this stuff in it or has every one that done this to their car keep it for ever ?????

I have never been a big fan of the stuff for one reason you mentioned, and that is someone wanting to know what might be hiding underneath (rust, pits, unground welds, etc...).  I would much prefer something that is not help permanently in place like that appears to be (not really sure how hard the stuff is to pull up).

I'm going to Dynamat my car, but I also have pictures showing the entire floor getting replaced and e coated. That would be the only way I'd buy a car that's covered in Dynamat...

I used Lizard Skin on mine and have no complaints with it.  There are no voids with this.

Difference might show up in the test drive. We're goin that route but w/ a cheaper/simpler set up of closed cell foam (1/8" Volara as the decoupling layer) and mass loaded vinyl (1/8" 1lb). Also usin lead sheet over trans tunnel. The Dynamat uses butyl and aluminum instead, and the aluminum has some minimal temperature properties? But I could never justify the mark-up of DM nor any cost/benefit analysis of an original purchase thereof. Just doubt that any noise losses are THAT significant, but sure I'll use comparable (better? MLV is serious stuff) materials instead of carpet padding for SOME quiet gains. Google the sound system guys and see how many are NOT using DM b/c of its ridiculous cost. Same w/ Lizard Skin, wh/ is more of a temperature barrier and can be made for next to nuthin w/ any (model airplane) microspheres.

I'm constantly in a battle over this myself, my 68 is void of any dynamat/hushmat product and i can say she's a noisy beast, but i take solace in the fact that i love the sound of my engine. I've been in a fully hushmat 67 mustang though, and i'd say there's a noticeable difference (with the windows up haha).

I've never heard of a person hiding rust with dynamat, although i'm sure it's been done somewhere. It being a costly option as well i dont think anyone in the right mind would do it to a car that isn't 100% either.

Oh, that's another good point--windows open. Now, in the event that we get AC for Kate, and have windows closed, we might notice the noise level difference.

If there is that much rust under the Dynamat, it will probably be starting to show under the car... Unless it's been undercoated.

Earplugs are cheaper than anything. 
IMO the car's sound doesn't really get annoying unless it's a long run of 30+ minutes.  That long of a trip is worth taking a few seconds to plug & unplug your ears.   


I'd rather buy a car without any layering on the interior that is permanent.

It's not a modern car.  Moderns cars are computer-designed and taking into sound & vibration frequencies, wind noise, etc.  The noise of an old car can be improved over stock but you WILL NOT get an old car near the quietness of a new one.  It's part of the charm.

Both dynamat and lizardskin type products make a world of difference with interior heat and noise. If hacks are using it to cover rust is a separate issue. My charger is maybe not new car quiet but probably 70s caddy quiet with stroker big block and 3" exhaust. Exhaust note louder, of course.

I don't think I could place a value on a car having it. It just depends on the car, regardless of benefits.

If its a restomod, I expect it to be there, if not, why'd they skimp?

If its a restored OEM, I don't want to see it, or POR15, or any other brushed-on product.
A lot of examples have wrinkles or a patchwork of small rotated pieces that just doesn't correlate to the same care took in getting the rest of it OEM. Visible or not.

Yah these cars get very warm, but I suspect most of us try to drive on cooler days anyway. If noise is bothersome on long trips, go to a 3.23, big stereo, or roll the windows down.

i love noisey cars. haha. but in this equation to me, no the car isn't worth anymore with the dynamat insalled, maybe worth less because you can't view the condition of the flloor pan
