Sorry about the weird title, didn't know what else to call this thread. I have a 1977 Dodge charger with a 360 and a Holley r7671 2 barrel. I have done a lot of work to her because every morning going to work, she wants to stall out. I can work on her when I get home and she'll run fine for the rest of the day, just not the next morning. I have done a full tune up, rebuilt the carb (getting new float today), checked and adjusted the timing, and worked on the mixture. Any help is appreciated and let me know if you need anymore information.

The Intake Manifold heat crossovers plug up with carbon on the small blocks, with the following symptoms:
Starts fine, but very soon tends to "load up" as the Choke Valve stays on as the Engine warms but the Intake does not. Usually, the poor running characteristic persists for about 20-30 minutes or until the Intake warms to operating temps by itself without the intake crossover assist(plugged).
Once warm, or after warmed through the first start poor running 20-30 minutes........ it runs fine as normal.       Just a "bear" for the first start/ 20-30 minutes of the day, and worse on wet/humid days.

does the above sound like what you are experiencing ?

Somewhat. I drive about 20-25 minutes to work everyday, she does it the whole way. I'm going to be driving her more today, I'll see then.

Like Challenger 340 said, the intake heat passage plugged up frequently.

Disconnect the rod to the choke. The choke should be wide open. You will have to pump the accelerator  pump a lot to get it started and keep it running for the first few minutes. After that it should drive OK , assuming the plugged intake and improper choke control was the issue.

Some of those cars had an electric assist heater in the choke well. Do you have a power wire running to the choke thermostat in the intake well?

Some other options would be to replace the factory Holley with the older Carter 2bl that they used on the earlier 360's and 383 motors, they seemed to be a much happier carb all around, or what I would do is replace the intake and carb with a 4bl intake and a 600 Holley or Edelbrock if your staying with a basically stock engine. If you like to drive it in cold temperatures I would make sure the heat crossover is open as stated earlier and have a choke operational for best driveability especially on the edelbrock, having a choke on the Holley probably not as big of a deal.

Worked on her a little bit today because she was surging and backfiring while under any acceleration over a hair. After 10-15 minutes she would idle fine, just not drive. Now after adjusting her mixture screws just a little bit I can't get her to stay idling. She'll start up with me having to pump the gas, idle a little rough, surge, bog down, and die. If I put my hand over the carb her idle goes really high but then she will die out after a little bit.
