where to get tires

Ok, I'm going to put some torq thrust wheels on my car.  ( purists can cringe now) anyway, I have a set of 15x8 for the back and will get a set of 14's for the front.  I'd like a tire like with the goodyear nascar look of a pair of mickey thompsons for the back.  I know I can find BF goodrich but looking for something different if possible.  Any suggestions of where or whom to get them from?

Tire availability in 14's is terrible any more. Go with 15's up front. With 14's you might have to look long and hard and then they may have been sitting on a shelf for a few years. If you want the big/little look, just go with lower profile tires up front.

I use Tire rack on line to find tires, and then I print out the price and go to a local tire shop, typically Big O. They are always willing to match pricing, and then you get local warranty.

I get my tires from my local "El Mexicali" mom and pop tire shop. Straight from the warehouse and they dont charge any of those BS "disposal and lug nut tightening" fees. Pay cash and theyll take a little more off the price.

Ive compared prices in the interest of due dilligence, and last time the same set was $200 cheaper than the big chain tire shops.

TL;DR: if you have any small mom and pop shops near you, check w them first.

Thanks guys, unfortunately there is no El Mexicali or Big O around here but I will check Tire Rack and go to some place up here.

Is there a Town Fair Tire near you? I just bought 4 BF Goodrich TA radials, and they match any price including on line.  I showed them the JEGS ad and they matched the price, I'm sure they would do the same vs. Tire Rack.  I brought my loose new Magnum 500s and they just charged for mount/balance and of course for the tires.  :Twocents:

Nope, no Town Fair in this area.  I am going to find the online prices and then hit the stores for sure.

I got my complete Cragar tire/wheel setup from Discount Tire Direct.   They shipped them mounted & balanced & filled with nitrogen right to my door.....no muss, no fuss
Even got the lugnuts as well!

Chris, I have been considering a set these for a different build. How long have you had them and are they holding up well? They have started catching my eye :icon_smile_cool:

Got them in May of 2010 and so far so good.  I do switch them every season with my Redlines & steelies though.  This is the season of the Cragar! ;)

Whats wrong with Summit, Jegs, Coker, or Diamond Back?  They all specialize in  older car sizes, unlike Tire Rack or Discount.

looks sharp, I like the combo you have.  I already have two torq thrust but certainly check them out for my tires and the front two rims. Thanks

These tires and wheels were bought as a package myself and the salesman put together from Jeg's for about $1500.00 mounted and balanced and ready to go with custom lug nuts for it.  Have yet to mount the original steelies and wheel covers as I just like this look and everyone I talk to agrees!

By the way, original and only cleaned up torsion bars up front and original and untouched rear springs that were only cleaned up and painted!  82K miles and a few hard launches and they are still standing strong.
