It is a very rough Charger 500 318 Auto car that is Plum Crazy with a white interior, white vinyl top, and sunroof.  It has been in Wisconsin for many years.  It is missing its trim tag.  I am trying to piece together anything about the history of this car.  The vin is XP29G0G196483.  I also posted it on the 70ChargerRegistry (my handle is Mudcar there).  Thanks!

Thanks!  Yes, I should have mentioned that the prior owner (who was just reselling the car as part of a package deal from an estate sale) registered it with Scott on the Sunroof Registry.

Also, if anyone is familiar with the recent liquidation of the Mopar collection by the widow of the gentleman in Wisconsin, I would really like any information regarding her name or location.

I saw that car on Craigslist last week or so. I tried to buy it. Looks like you beat me to the punch. I don't know anything about the estate sale. Just the guy who was selling it didn't want it but bought two cars at one time. Congrats

Luke,
Sorry to have scooped the car from you!  When I first contacted the seller, he said it was sold.  I then texted him and said I'd like to offer $3,500 to be put in second place if the other buyer flakes.  The guy flaked and I got it at $3,500.  Not really sure what to do with it now and am facing a moral dilemma.  I am rescuing a 70 RT/SE F8 green with white top from a grove of trees that has even more rust than the sunroof car.  It was a low-mileage perfectly nice car with original paint, no rust and no body damage that was parked in the 70's and just left there.  It is not economically viable to restore, given I do not have the skills to save it, but is original, complete, and highly optioned and has fender tags and title.  I could not get much selling it, but it has every single non-body part needed for the sunroof car.  So parting out makes the most sense, but then there is one less 70 RT/SE on the planet.  And I happen to really like the not-so-popular F8 green.  I should probably tuck them both away and work on my welding skills!

Sounds like you have two challenging projects to me. Since the sunroof car is missing so many parts - set it aside until a good donor car comes along. Since the R/T SE is complete - start working on it. Don't be afraid to start learning how to weld. I picked up a nice Miller hobby welder - the 140 - and have started replacing rockers and doing patch panels on my project. Time and patience is all you need. Once you get through doing the R/T - you will have a good idea of what parts you need for the sunroof car. Good luck!

Thanks SDWeatherman,

That approach makes sense.  I actually will have a progression of cars coming out of the same grove of trees the RT/SE was found.  In order of easiest to hardest to repair:  1965 VW Bug, 1955 Chevy 210 2 door, 1965 Mustang Fastback (Poppy Red with White interior, 289 4bbl, 22,000 miles - parked in the mid-1970's when it started overheating).  So I guess if I was ambitious enough by the time I got through those cars I'd have the skills to take on the Chargers.  But having the time is another thing.  Even if I just find good homes for them, I had to get the cars out of there before they disappeared all together.  The other 8 or so I'm leaving behind aren't so lucky and are either not valuable enough or just too far gone.

lukedukem

Sounds like you have it figured out. If you do want to find homes for the 70 let me know

Are these sunroofs made by the Golde company and have 'Golde' on the winding handle of the manual sunroofs?

Yes, American Sunroof Corp used Golde style sunroofs in these cars. The president and founder of ASC emigrated here from Germany and started putting Golde style sunroofs in celebrity cars in the mid 60s. Golde was usually stamped in the handles of manual crank sunroofs. For the short story on ASC and its president, check out the Mopar Sunroof Registry - don't know if links are allowed - so just google it.
Thanks,
Scott.

Thanks Scott. Don't suppose the felt and rubber kits for these sunroofs are available over there, as well as cables?

They look identical to the Australian Golde sunroofs that were put into GT Ford Falcons over here that everyone loses their minds over. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ :eek2:

I have a friend and sunroof car owner that has some NOS seals that he obtained in Germany for our Mopars. He is also in the process of reproducing the sunroof seals and may have them done by the end of the year, maybe sooner. He is also looking at reproducing the cables - but that may be a little ways off. He does have some spare parts tho. If you want his contact info, just send me a PM.

Apparently, someone is making the cables and sliders in Australia :

My cables are fine, but I do need a complete set of seals.

Does your friend have some seals to sell, or would it be best to wait on his new ones to be ready ?

sdweatherman

Yes, there is an Australian company that is reproducing the cables and gears. They are not faithful reproductions - but should be functional - and you don't see them when everything is assembled. I have not heard any feedback on their fit and functionality yet. A word of caution - these systems are pretty finicky - so I would not recommend mixing and matching parts. If you go with the new cables - then you likely will have to go with the reproduction gear also. The new cables might not mesh with the old gear and visa-versa.

As for the sunroof seals - my friend is pretty reasonable with the NOS seals - but you may want to contact him to see how far out he is on the reproduction ones. I have a feeling (and don't quote me) that he likes to try and reserve the NOS stuff for the factory sunroof car owners that are trying to do their cars up perfect - but money always talks. So you will just have to see where he sits. Just PM me if you would like his contact info.
