A lot of you know that the piston engine wheel driven speed record for decades was held by the Hemi powered Golden Rod in excess of 400mph. (recently bested by the Chevy powered Speed demon) How about records in the final frontier?

Fastest on the Moon : Lunar Rover, built by Boeing and General Motors : 11mph

Fastest on Mars : Curiosity  Rover, built by Jet Propulsion Laboratory : .1 MPH.

Fastest manned flight : Apollo 10 Command Module , built by McDonald Douglass : 24,790 MPH

Fastest human built vehicle : Juno Probe, Built by Lockheed Martin :165,000 MPH

Pretty cool...

Get back to me when a manned space craft exceeds 186,000 miles per second.  :drive:

Right now I'd settle for a jet pack.

I saw Apollo 11 land on the moon and hope to see a Mars landing.... Not sure if I will still be here for Warp 1. If I am I will post it. :2thumbs:

If the craft turns on it's headlights, will it do any good?

Hmm.  If that craft turned on the headlights would they even shine?   And if they did would they be something one could see in the -rearview- mirror?  :scratchchin:

The speed of light is independent of its source. As the craft goes faster the light would get bluer . (like a tuner's headlights)  Visible, ultraviolet, X ray then Gamma . As your blue shift went above visible light ,humans could not see it anymore. The headlight beams would also become more energetic eventually becoming Gamma rays which are bad for humans. As you approach the speed of light the beams would have more and more trouble out running the craft.
So at the speed of light you would have infinitely blue shifted light that could not get out of the front of the headlight......I think  :scratchchin:.....I will have a couple more beers and research the internet some more.

I'm with you so far but might need a couple more beers myself to keep up.
While you get a few beers and the craft gets -to- the speed of light lots of funny stuff happens that makes the light (comming or not) from the headlight trivial.
The hemi required to make -the infinite amount of HP required- to reach that speed would need to run on unobtainium fuel and have an ever/forever increasing task at the last moments.

BTW "time" becomes a big deal at these speeds.  If the craft we are talking about was indeed getting to that speed--right now--to those riders we would be billions of years in the past. Left in the dust so to speak.

The only slight issues is that it would take more energy than there is in the universe to get that ship to over light speed.....and that's why its impossible and probably always will be. Einstein was not stupid! I'm not saying that we wont be able to get places at the equivalent of more than light speed ...we just wont be just "going very fast" in a conventional ship. More likely is a bending of the space time continuum or use of worm hole etc.

.....and why is this in the "Car Guys Discussion " area . LOL!
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you !!

Where does simple "transporting" fit in for "speed", like on Star Trek?  :shruggy:
It's instantaneous.   :Twocents:

Oh I don't know....

Ever since I went to visit my cousin on the planet Omicron3 Persei I 8 , I have noticed that I think strangely at times. I was hoping to travel at warp one ( c.)  ,but my Charger does not have a Hemi , just a 440 . This limited me to just 99% the speed of light and I just have not been the same since then.  :shruggy:

I wonder what the insurance adjusters would pay for if you hit a deer at the speed of light.  Then again, if you had those deer whistles they would move.

YOu can have all that. I was there to watch this record being broken. As far as I am concerned, this thing is sex with wings.
