1968 Charger
This is a view of an end of the two top pieces of exterior trim around the rear window.
Each piece of trim had one piece of black plastic slipped into the back side channels.
Are there more pieces required, where do they go, and their purpose??

I have disassembled quite a few chargers over the years and never seen those plastic inserts before. That is very odd your car had them I don't believe they are original. The parts book doesn't show them. Leave them out they don't serve any function.

Could have been an early 68 thing. Something they decided they didn't need later.

I've seen them on 68 and 69 s and not just in that spot. Maybe an anti rattler?

I am the original owner of the car.  It was built in Dec. 1967.
I am the first person to remove that trim.
I don't know what to say or think except the factory put them there.
They were not on the same end of each piece of trim, I think, because they slide.

That would be the most likely answer.
