SHOULD I STAY ORIGINAL PAINT?

Getting ready to paint, original numbers car, Im not sure I like the turbine bronze. Looks a little dull. whats the value loss for going non original color?Id like to go Creme, like my 69 was, black vinyl top black interior. It was turbine bronze, black vinyl top and white interior. What the consensus on value and staying true??

First, welcome to the forum.
Now, about your question. More information is needed about your Charger to answer it. Ultimately, it is your car and your choice What year is it? Is it a R/T? Other questions need to be addressed also but, as I said earlier, it is your car and your choice !

Turbine bronze is awesome! I have a bronze/white/white 68 Charger but it isn't finished. A friend has a bronze/black 68 Coronet R/T. If you're going to switch colors you're going the wrong way from a value standpoint. While not everyone loves bronze, fewer love any sort of cream/light yellow.

Depending on your paint brand: I've heard that it's transparent (moreso than others) and to shoot a silver base coat. However, that may not be necessary as I've seen plenty that haven't had that and look great. The color is hard to photograph due to the way it catches light. I love the way it highlights the body lines. These were at Carlisle (different years).








This is mine after 48 years. The pinch weld is original, the rocker was repainted.

I lost a LOT of sleepless nights deciding on mine... only YOU have to be happy with it if you plan on keeping it for any time frame .. and I've already had mine for 48 years! 

I couldn't do "original" lifeless flat B5 from days of old... so we spruced mine up a bit. It's actually REALLY close to B5 color, but with some metallic/pearl (House of Kolors 403)

You could always go back to "brown"(lol) in the future if your want to..like if you were selling..it's only paint....not cheap to do so of course but hey. Gotta say that the original colour does not do it for me but it's your car and you are the only one who's got to like it!

BirdsandBees has a neat idea. Some metallic in that bronze, and it would really pop. From the Carlisle pics anyway, it doesn't look too brown to me.

Planning on selling it anytime soon? Keep it original. Planning on keeping it and enjoy the car? Paint it whatever you like.

These cars bring a lot of money when falling apart, and they'll bring loads of of money in great shape with a beautiful paint job, regardless of the color.

R/T or a mutt, it matters less and less as time goes on. These cars are not easy to find, especially in good condition. Who knows what the future buyer wants really? I passed up on several real R/Ts to find the 318 mutt built into an R/T clone I now have. I would pay more for a car that is in good shape wearing an arrow badge than an R/T in similar condition because I want to customize my cars and enjoy them. Others will have the opposite mindset so really, you can't do much wrong here.

I agree with Troy, the bronze looks really nice in person. Upgrading it to a modern bronze would be sweet as well but if you don't go with totally original then it really doesn't matter what color you give it. It's original or it's not.

I painted mine the color I like not everyone else. A lot of people told me green was not a good color for a Charger. I decided it was the right color for MY Charger. Also I have a turbine bronze C-body, when I decide it is time to repaint it will be a "modern" version of the color. Only because I like it NOT the nay sayers or internet trolls.

I say paint it whatever the hell color you want, it's your car.

That said, I happen to like that turbine bronze. It's an interesting color. You really can't lose here either way.

If you're worried about resale value, personally I think painting it black or resale red will bring an equal dollar amount to the original color. (Or possibly more.)Once you deviate from the fender tag it comes down to purely a matter of what color is the most appealing to the largest group of people. I really don't think cream would bring as much as those two would, honestly.

Take the fender tag off and keep it in a safe place and do what ever you want to the car

If you sell the car give the tag to the next guy

If you are worried about what the fender tag says then follow what the fender tag says and keep it on the car

IMHO the OP should paint it ANY color he wants to, the hell with the next owner, history, resale, value, etc, etc, you only live once, enjoy it the way you choose

dayclona beat me to it. You only live once and these cars are on a 45 year back order. Paint it the color you want.
