this 1969 r/t car is sitting here in las vegas and is complete stock all there with no rust but the owner claims it to be an original production test car. it has a 6 point cage in it with the old school rope style window nets that hang from the roof not the door sill. it has obviously been sitting for sometime. does anyone have any light they can shine on this?

Does it have a VIN plate or fender tag?

Yes, I know I have too many cars. My wife reminds me daily.

Didn't early '69's have black door buttons?

Mytur Binsdirti

Hopefully, the Count won't get his mitts on it and ruin another.

Lennard

I wonder what that skid plate is for.  :scratchchin:

Good project car, but the story about its history is bunk.  If it was used for testing by somebody then it wasn't the factory.  Window nets didn't become common in stock cars until after Richard Petty's bad wreck in his '70 RR.  Even after that it was a long time before all the amateur ranks were mandating it.

That's no way to build a circle-track car.  It's a street car with a cage & skid plate.

If that car was in the LA area then I would wonder about a Hollywood stunt-car history.   It has that look about it.  Although I'm pretty familiar with '69 Chargers in cinema and no specific TV/movie jumps out at me.

an original production of what ..... tan interior, roll bar, push bar skid plate - the Dukes of Hazzard?
I've got a flashlight or two & it's dark outside ..... should we go take a look?

Marker lights are still there.... and not much body damage. I doubt it's a series used General Lee...

CB seems to have his eye out to rescue all the derelict 68-70 Chargers on the west side of the USA. Hell yeah, dude! Glad to see you root out these cars and get them into the hands of people that can do something with them!    :2thumbs:

I wouldn't absolutely 100% rule out the possibility of a General Lee history just from these pics.  But the details don't lean that direction.

The front bumper lacks the bolt holes and/or welds for a General Lee pushbar.
That skid plate never showed up in Hazzard.
The rollcage isn't quite their style.
There is an emblem on the C-pillar.
Etc.

the "original production" doesn't have to be a WB related "production" - it is located in Las Vegas, afterall

interesting  , test or press  / magazine car ,   :scratchchin:  could be   ....  in a lot of the magazine & brochures  , there was a bronze  69 with a three speaker dash , think they had tan interior too   :shruggy:  the cage & stuff , is something that's been done at a later date  , really need the vin  , has black door buttons  or at least the drivers door , although that don't mean much , could have been changed  :shruggy: :popcrn:

Yes. I believe the change to chrome was in January '69.

Can anyone see the mounting buttons for headrests?  It's not clear in the pictures.  If so then I thought headrests were only used later in the model year?

Mike DC

They were only standard later in the year.  They were optional before that, and optional on '68s.

Ok, so that doesn't give any clue to build date.

Very cool! you would see its been a General Lee with that roll cage in it haha.
