Performer RPM on 440 in a 68 Charger. Will it fit with a stock hood?

Hi,

Deciding on an intake for my 440 build. Will a performer RPM fit under a stock hood with a Holley carb, or will I need to go with the standard Performer?

Any help would be appreciated.

Fits fine, as long as you use a dropped base air cleaner........

Agree, That's what I run in my 68. I would add that the hood insulation pad will have to be cut out or removed if you plan to use one.

Didn't know the RPM wall the tallest intake out there it seems!!!! At least out of that list anyway. I have always wondered about the Holley street dominator intake, is that a good street intake or is more for higher rpm's since it is a single plane. I'm running the RPM on my 493 stroker RB and it works fine with the drop base breather and cutting some of my insulation out from the hood too. I have heard the holley SD was a good power making intake but what about the driveability of that intake? The last time I looked on mancini racing and summit racing they are still available.

The word I heard is the Street Dominator is equal to the Performer RPM in most cases.

I have the Performer RPM on my '69 Charger and i've had a ton of trouble with hood clearance! I run a Edelbrock carb on mine, which is part of the problem. For a while i was running a really low profile 6" air cleaner that was choking the life out of my 440, but it's all i could get to fit under the hood. I did find a Mr. Gasket 9" air cleaner that i had to modify the base but i did get it to (barely) clear the hood. I haven't found a "drop base" air cleaner that actually clears the fuel line and linkages. I have a Holley 750 double pumper a buddy of mine built specifically for my motor, say's it will give me the hood clearance i need, i just haven't got a round to swapping the carb yet. I still don't see how the drop base will work with the DP, i have a drop base that doesn't fit around the DP's float bowls already. If you go with the RPM intake, i'll be curious to know what you use for an air cleaner so maybe i can get mine set-up right someday too!

The drop base breather that I bought to use that works on my RB engine was a ford motorsport air filter. I used the bottom and the air filter and used the original top part of my air filter with the pie pan. It's been a long time but I think it was a 13 inch air filter. It was a 3/4 to 1 inch drop base I think. Maybe they still sell them, I got mine from summit racing i'm pretty sure....

I did the same as 69Wannabe - get the Ford Motorsport drop base air cleaner assembly and just use the bottom part. Mine is on a double pumper 950 carb.

Rpm, with spacer, clears stock hood with room, no drop base. 2nd pic is very old and different intake but shows the air cleaner and base.
