Okay  had a mild built 440 , specs
60 over
Unported  stealth heads
1.6 crane gold rockers
Stock stroke
1 3l4 headers
Tm_7 intake
850 profile carb
Comp magnum solid flat tappet cam
.555 lift with 1.6 rocker ratio
294 duration int/each
250@ 050

I spun a Rod bearing going to rebuild with a 500 cubic inch mild built stroker.  Will the cam and heads work decent with this amount of cubes, and also should I go with 1 7/8 headers or 2 inch. I'd like to use everything I can cam and heads wise , headers def need to go. What's ur thoughts here.

All of it will "work". The 1 7/8 headers will build more torque then the 2" . The heads will hold back alot of power on a 500" engine but throttle response should be crisp and clean.

What does it generally cost to have those heads opened up some? Doubt I'll spin  it much more than 6k rpm

Hey Mally,

The unported heads are going to be the cork in this air pump. That being said it should make an honest 520hp/600tq with the parts listed above.  :yesnod:

If you're serious about having some Headwork done give Dwayne @ Porter Racing Heads a call. He's done lots of different levels of porting on the Stealths and knows where to grind/carve to extract the maximum power out of those castings. The cam is fine.....maybe slightly small for an all out effort but perfectly acceptable for a street/strip pump gas type build.  :2thumbs:

Dwayne's shop # is :  802-951-1955

Thanks Ron sounds good. Looks like that's my plan. Hopefully I can get at least 550 hp

With some portwork that goal is easily achievable.  :yesnod:

With a "max effort" port job you could make 600+HP  ;)

The Stealths respond dramatically to even just the basics when done properly.

FORGET the 440 Source published numbers.... they LIE !
On our new SuperFlow 750 bench, OOTB the Stealths struggle to 260 cfm @ .600" lift, NOT real good on a 500" BB deal ?
But....
with even just a good Valve Job, and some very minor port work(couple hours), they can easily go 285 to 290 cfm @ .600" which is plenty to sail past 550 hp and closer to 600 hp with the right Cam.
after that...
it is the law of diminishing returns, and the hours involved above 300 cfm get proportionally worse versus better Heads.
Only wimps wear Bowties !

Perfect I'll just have Dwayne spec out a cam while he's at it then.  Only other issue is I just put a new ptc  3500 stall converter in it. I believe it's 9.5 hopefully I can still use it. Don't even have 50 miles on it yet
