Currently rebuilding a cast crank 440 engine. This is a low milage motor that I believe has never been apart However the main crank caps are not I'm order they are numbered but the order goes 1-2-3-5-4 and the number 4 cap which is on the end is a bigger number 4 than the rest of the numbers....should these be in order or should I keep them as they currently are?

they should be in order, the main cap with the thrust bearing is going to be obvious...the rest should be in order from front to rear....when you get it apart, and the bearings out, you should be able to match the machine marks in the inside of the caps to the block...if in doubt, just put the caps on in order from front to rear and have the block line bored to have them mate up perfectly to the block for the next rebuild
