Along the lines of my question about a preferred shipping company, how have you guys gone about paying for a car you bought sight unseen?

Do you use an escrow company?

Also, have you used an auto inspection service to have the car looked at?

Thanks for the help.

So has anyone used an escrow service?  If not, how did you go about transferring money safely?

I bought my car using bank to bank wire transfer of the money. Was the best and safest way I could buy the car and my bank was very helpful. Very safe because my bank verified the seller's info and everything is documented.I was lucky for shipping the car because my uncle drives a semi and picked car up for me when he was in the area. Hope this will help you out.

How was the transaction documented and what legal recourse would you have had if the car didn't show up as described?

Bought the car on ebay. Before I bought it I talked to someone at ebay and they said vehicle puchase was protected under there ebay protection plan and if there were any problems ebay would help with any legal issues. When I won the car on ebay I talked to the owner and told him money would not be exchanged till I looked at car myself. Once I was satisfied with car I went to my bank and gave them all the info on the car. They looked at the info and verified it was not stolen  and the person who sold it was who he said he was. This took about 5 days. I will say I was nervous the whole time but everything worked out great.
