Well since my car is still blown up, i got to take the super stocker to wildwood this year. 1st time this car has been tagged in over 30 yrs. We didnt know how it would react or deal with the heat but it turned out to really surprise us. Held a rock solid 170-180 idling around all weekend. Basic overview is as follows.

Origonal max wedge lightweight.
13:1 426 crossram
750 lift solid roller
22" 2 row aluminum rad
Mezeire electric water pump, no thermostat. 50/50 antifreeze.
Twin puller fans.

Car had excellent street manners despite the cam not cleaning up til 4k. Crisp and responsive. Turned alot of heads, we left alot of redlights with shit eating grins.

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Can you give me some information on the fans.

I have a very similar setup with one fan and would like to add another but can't find one to fit.

c00nhunterjoe

I will get the exact sizes and numbers next time im at the garage. It used to have 1 larger fan in the center of the rad but it would get warm. Changed to 2 smaller fans that covered a greater area of the fins.

jack330

It's appreciated. I have around 600 HP and a single fan in center. Fine when moving but temp shoots up when at low speed or idling.

Hate to change back to stock setup

Beautiful car. Is it an origonal maxxie? What area are you in? This one was shut down early on the dyno but made 610 at that point and was still climbing fast. I would estimate based on et and trap speeds that its about 630 give or take a little. It used to have a stock style wp housing with an electric insert pump and 1 single center mount fan. Would do exactly as you are describing. Swapped over the winter to the meizere pump and 2 smaller staggered fans and no problems. The meizere pump moves some serious water as do the fans move alot of air. This motor puts a good amount of heat quickly being a filled block.

jack330

It was built 8 years ago as a "tribute" car. I am in Eastern, MA.
Details below. Have dyno runs at 575 HP with a 750 carb, now
has a 950 Holley HP. Have slip from LV Dragstrip at 11.55.

1969 440 block – 30 Over
1963 Max Wedge Heads
Ross pistons
Eagle H-Beam rods
Ultradine (now Bullet) cam .613/.309 (Duration at .050" = 276)
M-1 (Mopar) intake, 950 Holly Double Pumper
MSD distributor with 6 AL and 2 step
727 pushbutton w/slip yoke A&A manual valve body – PTC 4500 Converter
Dana 60 with 4:56 gears, hardened axles, split mono-leaf Calvert Racing springs with Cal-Tracs.
Chromoly Drive Shaft
Rancho Shocks
Line Lock
Manual steering and brakes
Holley electric fuel pump
Electric fan (switch activated)
AFCO Racing Radiator
Mickey Thompson 26 x 8.50 / 15 LT Front, 28 x 10.50 / 15 LT Rear

Can tell me the manufacturer of the fans. I also have stock water pump housing with electric insert so I think
i will put in a complete Meizier pump

Sounds like a really fun car. Racing the push button takes some getting used to but i love it. Hope you have a kevlar blanket on yours too. Glutten for punishment with the 63 heads arnt you? Lol. 4 bolts can be a pain with oil leaks.
I will try to get the box out for the fans this weekend for specifics. They are nothing special. Just off the shelf summit stuff. I chose them based on size to cover the most surface area of the radiator.

jack330

Had a heck of time with leaks but them bought Hamburger valve covers. Very pricey but work great. No leaks, same Moroso valve covers after many lifter adjustments

Have a new lower transmission pan and need to buy a new blanket.

Thanks for info on fans.

Very cool MW cars !  :2thumbs:

Joe :  Luv the Black beast  :drool5: What does it run ?

Jack : I have the same AFCO rad in mine and it cools the 572 fine. I'm using a single fan set up as a pusher on the front of the radiator. Aftermarket aluminum WP housing and pump from Mancini racing with a 160* Milidon high flow thermostat. I have the fan set up on a Derale fan controller set at 175* and it holds that temp no problem.

I recommended the same fan to one of our members who is now using it on a 500in blower build and it's keeping his car cool on the street. We all know how much heat a Roots blower will generate  :P

Another buddy is using the same fan on his procharged 440 making 800HP and it works fine on the street as well.

Here is a link to the Rainbow website....the fan I'm using is a 2 speed unit rated at 2500cfm (low) and 3200cfm (high) Mine is setup in the high position so when it kicks on there is the full CFM being pushed through the front of that AFCO rad.

A few years back I was in the staging lanes and saw my engine temp at 220* and went into panic mode. Looked down at the switch panel and realized I had the toggle switch that powers the relay OFF  :icon_smile_blackeye:  Flipped the switch and within 90 seconds I was back at 175* and made the pass. That fan really works !

10.45-10.52 depending on the air. 128 mph avg. Its got more in it, been working out alot of bugs. Car rarely comes out in the past but i am getting to bring it "out of retirement". The last 5 years it went to the track once a year for the mopar race at maple grove, last year it didnt come out at all.prior to that, it sat in the corner of the garage on stands under a cover since the 80s. Its an old school superstock build engine. No trick parts like alot of modern ones run, all stock stuff.
No controller on these fans, just the toggle. Fwiw, with the engine off, running the pump and fans- 60 seconds is 10 degrees drop in summer heat.

jack330

Thanks Ron. I will definitely look into this fan as a pusher. Might be a tight fit

I didn't see it on the link but how many amps does it say it pulls on high mode?

c00nhunterjoe

At thar freeflow cfm, i would say 20-25 amps.

c00nhunterjoe

I apologize. I was at the garage tonight and completely forget to look up what the fans are on the car.

jack330

No hurry. It's cool now in MA so it's running a decent temp
