Warm/Cold control from inside car

So from under the hood I can close the valve and the temp control in the car goes almost all the way to the left.  (cold)   I can open it and it will go almost all the way to the right (warm).   From inside the car I can now move that lever back to the left and close that valve but I can't move the lever to the right and open it.  So the only way to go from cold to warm would be getting under the hood and manually opening that valve.   Any thoughts on what needs to be done to make this cable do it's job correctly?

Thank you for any input!

I have never gotten mine to work, finally I gave up as I never drive it when I need heat anyway. I just move it under the hood.
I would like to see what some of the solutions are myself. Cable is fine, tight but fine. I have tried 2 in fact.   :popcrn:

I've never changed my cable, but lubed the hell out of that pin it goes through.  Can you pull yours back from hot to cold?  Mine works that way, but do agree I rarely need the heat.  It's just one of those things I guess that seems like it should work and doesn't so I want it too.  Hey do you know what this part is called and maybe where to get it?  Some type of splash shield I guess.  In front of radiator, bolts to the side and has some rivets that hold it to the bottom.  Mine is tore up bad.

Yep, A/C cars got those to deflect more air to radiator.  Got mine from Detroit Muscle Tech. It is called 73-74 Charger radiator side splash shields (with OEM style plastic push pins) - p# BCH7374SS30. BTW, it is not supposed to bolt there, just the clips.
Page 19 here. You can purchase both pieces or get the kit which includes the headlamp gaskets and more importantly the side inner fender shield which is usually ripped all to heck if you have a big block. Small block cars didn't have it. Anyway see: http://www.detroitmuscletechnologies.com/content/2016%20DMT%20CATALOG%2071-74%20B%20BODY%20CHARGER%20150.pdf

Great.  Thanks for the info, I'll surely look into getting these.  The price is reasonable.

Ever since I went to a bigger cam, edelbrock intake, and the 4 barrel the car tends to get a little hot at idle sitting at a light.  I need to pull more through so I'm looking at even the little things to help make that happen.  Right now it's all stock.  The 18.5 inch fan, the shroud, and that 2 inch spacer.  At least 3/4 of the fan, (maybe more like 7/8), is outside the shroud and I have about 2-3 inches in front to work with, so I'll probably combine a couple spaces from flex-a-lite and give myself 3 inches of spacer to get closer to the radiator.  Probably change the fan from the 5 blade to a 6 blade while I'm at it.  I know electric is an option or maybe adding a clutch of some type.  Any experience or thoughts on simple upgrades I can make to keep it cooler at idle?  (getting way off topic now)  lol

Personally, I would stay away from a flex fan blade, but that is me. Personally I would find a factory 7 blade fan.  They are around.
See list below.

Thanks.  What are the numbers to the far right?  Like the 24.21?  Anyway James at Detroit muscle technologies got me hooked up with that part.  Even offered to pay the shipping.  Nice guy.  Thanks for the info on that.
That book was issued in something like 1977. Believe it or not, those are list prices.   :o
